Meet Our "Star of the Month" Khaysha B. - De La Salle Class of 2013
De La Salle's "Star of the Month" Program celebrates the Lasallian values of demonstrating excellence in education, while being of service to God, family, and community through the recognition of one student each month who best embodies these qualities. The Star of the Month is nominated by staff and selected by staff and students. Each month, this exemplary student is recognized during our Star of the Month breakfast or lunch celebration.

October's Star, Khaysha, was recognized for her quiet intelligence, maturity, and compassion for people. Martha Altvater - language arts & social studies teacher - noted that Khaysha was particularly moved by the plight of Chilean miners trapped underground for over two months.
In her journal entry on the subject, Khaysha wrote, "I would have gone crazy if I had someone down there that I loved, and I would have jumped for joy to see that person after so long when they were rescued."

De La Salle Students Give Back to their Community
Through De La Salle's Service Learning classes, students learn the importance of community service. Last month, our 7th and 8th grade girls visited the YWCA Head Start Garfield Center to read to pre-school children.
This month, artwork created by De La Salle students was donated to the Little Bit Foundation. The artwork was auctioned off at the Foundation's "Join the Journey" event on October 23, with proceeds benefiting their mission to "remove obstacles that prevent disadvantaged children in the St. Louis area from being ready to learn."
