Meet Our "Star of the Month" Austin D. - De La Salle Class of 2011
De La Salle's "Star of the Month" Program celebrates the Lasallian values of demonstrating excellence in education, while being of service to God, family, and community through the recognition of one student each month who best embodies these qualities. The roots of this tradition date back to Saint John Baptist de La Salle - a priest and educational innovator living in 17th century France - who began a new system of Christian Schools in which the teachers assist parents in the educational, ethical and religious formation of their children.
De La Salle Middle School's Star of the Month is nominated by staff and selected by staff and students. Each month, this exemplary student is recognized during our Star of the Month breakfast or lunch celebration.
Austin with principal, Phil Pusateri, and teachers, Mike Wessel, Julie Gryskiewicz, and Martha Altvater. | June's Star, Austin, was recognized for his maturity, readiness to learn, excellence in reading aloud, interest in world events, and ability to make teachers laugh.

More De La Salle Student Success!
Seventh-grader Macean M. and eighth-grader Marques C. participated in Botball in April, along with students from Marian Middle School and Loyola Academy. The Botball Educational Robotics Program gives students skills, experience, and opportunities to succeed as they work in teams to design, build and program a pair of autonomous robots.
Cortesia O. (Marian Middle School), Marques C. (De La Salle Middle School), and Robert C. (Loyola Academy) working on their robot.
Mary Institute and Country Day School (MICDS) students recently volunteered at De La Salle for an in-service project to help DLS students create thoughtful posters about their educational aspirations. MICDS student, Grace O., commented that, "De La Salle students all have a desire to do well in school, and I also thought it was very interesting how graduation is such a huge goal at DLS."
Sixth-grader, Kiara B., next to her poster.
Trevor G., a De La Salle graduate and senior at CBC, is participating in the Cultural Leadership Program. He is currently on a month-long trip to places in the U.S. of civil rights and social justice significance, including New York City, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Birmingham, Montgomery, Tuskegee and Selma, AL, among others. We wish him the best as he witnesses first hand these historic locations.
