Baby Shower for the City's Adopted Marines

Help Pamper Our Mommy-To-Be Marine Wives

The City's adopted Second Battalion, Fifth Marines (2/5) are proudly serving our country overseas in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Some of these marines had to leave behind pregnant wives or new babies. In support of our adopted Marine battalion, Operation Help a Hero (OHH) and the City of Rancho Santa Margarita will be hosting a baby shower on April 22.

If you would like to get involved in support of 25 mommy-to-be Marine wives, here's how you can help:

1. Adopt a mommy-to-be with a small group or your business.

2. Start a diaper drive to benefit the baby shower.

3. Donate a baby item - no contribution is too small!

4. Donate raffle prizes (for baby and mommy).

5. Sponsor a baby shower game.

6. Donate gift cards to Target, Babies 'R Us, or Walmart to enable our mommies to purchase items from their baby registries.

7. Donate your favorite baby book to help these mommies begin their own children's book collection.

8. Volunteer your time and talents.

9. Donate gently used items. We especially need high chairs, gliders, strollers, bath tubs, monitors, pumps, and baby swings in good condition.

Arrange a pick-up with OHH or bring donations to the Bell Tower Regional Community Center until Friday, April 20 during regular business hours, Monday through Thursday 8 a.m to 9 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Click here for more information or contact OHH's baby shower coordinator, Laura Hopper at [email protected].

My VotePresidential Primary - June 5, 2012
Important Information for "No Party Preference Voters"  And Voter Registration Deadlines

As the June 5, 2012 Presidential Primary approaches, the City of Rancho Santa Margarita wants to inform "No Party Preference" (formerly known as "Declined to State") voters of important information related to ballot selection and provide information on key Presidential Primary election deadlines.

The State of California conducts both a Closed and Modified-closed primary. According to the State of California, each political party has the option of allowing No Party Preference voters (people who register to vote without stating a political party preference) to vote in their primary election

The Democratic and American Independent parties notified the Secretary of State that they will allow No Party Preference voters to vote the presidential ballot of their parties. The Republican Party will conduct a Closed Presidential Primary - only voters indicating a preference for that party may vote for that party's presidential nominee. If you do not request a ballot, you will be given a nonpartisan ballot, containing only the names of candidates in the California Open Primary (voter-nominated and local nonpartisan offices).

Deadline to register to vote in the June 5 Primary is May 21. The last day to request a "vote by mail ballot" is May 29. Voter registration forms are available online at the California Secretary of State's website at www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_vr.htm, through the Orange County Registrar's Office at www.ocvote.com, at Rancho Santa Margarita City Hall, the RSM public library, and the RSM post office.

Contact City Clerk Molly McLaughlin at (949) 635-1806 for additional information.
