Exciting Summer Adventures Await at the Bell Tower Regional Community Center
Early Summer Camp Registration Begins April 2, 2011 
Spring has sprung and summer is just around the corner. Learning and exploring doesn't have to stop when the school year ends. Rancho Santa Margarita is offering more than 35 fun-filled camps to keep your child active this summer.

There is something for every child aged 1 1/2 through 17 years old. Dance, art, music, engineering, film making, science, cooking, skateboarding, photography, magic, and more!

Summer camps are popular and fill up fast. Check out the Summer Camp guide and plan ahead. Registration can be done online through the City's online class registration system, in person at the Community Center, or by mail. TCA Spring Native Habitat Tours: Sustainability for a Greener Future
March 3, 17, April 21, and May 5  
Join The Toll Roads for the 12th Annual Native Habitat tour series. Don't miss your opportunity to hike through the significant areas of open space protected through regional open space planning efforts. This year's tour will focus on The Toll Road's sustainability efforts that come from extensive long-term environmental planning and restoration. These guided hikes offer a glimpse into Orange County's habitat areas that few people have ever seen, so reserve your spot quickly!

BatteriesRSM Recycles: Batteries
Recycling Used Batteries Just Got Easier
Batteries are considered household hazardous waste and it's illegal to throw them out with the trash. To help residents dispose of batteries properly, the City now has battery recycle boxes located at City Hall. Batteries can be place in the bins during regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Batteries can also be dropped off at any of the Orange County Household Hazardous Waste Facilities which are open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Residents may also call Curbside, Inc at 800.449.7587 to schedule a household pickup of batteries. Please call Curbside for pricing and scheduling. Visit www.earth911.org for additional battery recycling locations.

If you're looking to try something new, this is a perfect way to try it before you commit. Choose from over 30 pre-school, youth and adult classes that are being offered at the Bell Tower Regional Community Center during March. For a complete list of free classes, click here. Recreation Highlights 

Parent and Me "My First Movement"  

Children will play and learn in this exciting first movement class experience through the use of music and props. Children will learn movement, dance, coordination, and how to play with others while getting all their wiggles out. This is an active, exciting environment that requires active parent/caretaker participation. It is filled with fun and fantasy that keeps children engaged while stimulating their minds and moving their bodies.  

Wednesdays, March 28 - May 9, 10:15-11 a.m.

Ages 1.5-4 years, $72 / 6 classes   

 

Music for Me and You   

This class encourages the development of the whole child through music. Parent and children will experience the sounds and rhythms of music through instrument play, songs, do-re-mi singing notes, rhymes, puppetry, musical stories, and creative movement.   

Tuesdays, March 13 - May 8, 9:30-10:15 a.m. 

Ages 1.5-5 years, $135 / 9 classes  

 

Hip Hop Sing and Dance Pop Star  

Come join OC Dance for this Glee-inspired class. Participants will learn and sing lyrics to their favorite Radio Disney songs while dancing to fun, clean, choreography like a true pop star. Moves are basic, clean hip hop and jazz dance. Props and crafts will be made for the final class. All songs, moves, and themes are age appropriate. Optional recital in May for participants. Fee for costumes will apply if participating in recital.   

Mondays, March 26 - May 7, 4:15-5 p.m. No class April 9.   

Ages 4-7, $72 / 6 class

 

Horse Fun for Kids    

Learn how to ride horses this spring! The instructor will teach you how to handle horses on the ground through haltering, leading, grooming, saddling, and basic riding. Participants must wear closed toe shoes, jeans, and a helmet. Unregistered siblings cannot attend class. Parents/guardians are invited to watch. Bring $20 cash materials fee.
Saturdays, March 3 - 24, 9-10 a.m.

Ages 7-12 years, $63 / 4 classes

 

NEW! Creative Writing and Spoken Word for Children       

Spoken word, or slam as it is affectionately known, is one of the fastest literary art forms in the world. During this exciting and fun 8 week course, we will focus on writing for the page and the stage.  Modern and classic authors, as well as uniquely designed writing prompts will be used to help students find and develop their "writer's voice", combat writer's block, and get their stories onto the page. Editing for publication and performance will be emphasized and encouraged. 

Tuesdays, March 6 - April 24, 2:45-4:15 p.m. 

Ages 8-12 years, $75 / 8 classes

 

Dog Obedience Training     

The instructors will teach dog owners basic obedience commands using positive reinforcement.  Please bring proof of vaccinations. Puppies are required to have at least two rounds of shots and must be at least 3 months old to participate. 

Saturdays, March 10 - April 21, 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Ages 18+ years, $98 / 7 classes

 

Zumba Gold     

This is a low impact Latin-inspired dance fitness class tailored to participants 55 and older. The easy to follow choreography incorporates salsa, cha-cha, merengue, flamenco, and more. Zumba Gold is designed to help participants improve balance, strength, heart health, and most of all it is fun!     

Wednesdays, March 14 - April 18, 9-9:50 a.m.  

Ages 55+ years, $39 / 6 classes

 

Beginning Hula Dance     

Participants will learn the basic movements of the hips, feet, arms, and hands coordinated together while learning the hula. 

Mondays, March 5 - May 21, 6:30-7:30 p.m.    

Ages 18+ years, $63 / 12 classes
