Council Adopts a Balanced Budget

Everyone is feeling the effects of the struggling economy, and the City is not exempt. Over the past several months, the City Council and staff worked very hard to produce a viable and conservative budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Not unlike household budgets, the process included tough decisions and compromises. Our goal was to align expenditures with the trend of declining revenues with the least impact on services to the community.

After much deliberation and discussion, Council adopted a balanced budget for Fiscal Year 2010-2011 at the June 23, Council meeting. Careful and selective reductions were made in all departments including Police Services. It is important to emphasize that the City Council, Chief of Police Services, and I pledge to you that the reductions which were so necessary to make, will not diminish our commitment to public safety in our community. Reduced staff and resources in departments may cause a delay in services, but again, we are committed to getting the job done. Please contact us if you receive unsatisfactory (or satisfactory - we like compliments, too) service.

I'd like to thank the staff for their diligent assistance to the Council during this process.  It was not easy deciding on spending cuts, eliminations and reductions of city services, programs, and staff while maintaining public safety and other core services, and protecting emergency cash reserves. But, the Council succeeded.

Budget documents are available on the City's website at www.cityofrsm.org.

Sincerely,
Steven E. Hayman

Could Cause Minor Traffic Delays

At the end of July, construction will begin on the pavement resurfacing for Robinson Ranch Road from Raintree Lane to North Peak Drive. The City is using a combination of funding for this project including Measure M revenues, grant money from  American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and a rubberized asphalt concrete grant through the State.  Minor traffic delays between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. are expected during the months of August and September.  The City will endeavor to minimize any inconvenience to residents.

For more information about the project please contact the Public Works Department at 949.635.1800.
Summer Concerts!
The City of Rancho Santa Margarita and SAMLARC present four free concerts of fantastic musical performances.

According to one RSM resident, "Last summer was our first time attending the concerts in the park. Some of our best memories from last summer were packing up blankets, the kids, and being under the summer sky dancing with our family and friends to live music."

Concerts are on Sundays from 6-8 p.m. in Central Park in Civic Plaza. Bring your family, friends, blankets and chairs.
