Little Things or Big, Tecaboca Has Some Wishes and Some Needs!
The mission of Tecaboca is to serve the church through the ministry of the Marianist family. Tecaboca will provide opportunities for spiritual development, leadership training, and community building for both laity and religious, with an emphasis on young people. Through preservation of its natural beauty, Tecaboca will offer a setting for learning, retreat, and reflection for the people of God
Currently, our to-do list is full, so if you are a plumber, a carpenter, an electrician, or an all-around chore boy or girl, give us a call. An afternoon or a weekend of work is what makes Tecaboca happen. On the weekend of May 7, a group of Boy Scouts from Kerrville will be on site volunteering, so if you would like to add your elbow grease to this weekend, just email Kay and let her know, director@tecaboca.com.
Needed items: fencing materials, working utility vehicle, lawn or deck furniture, bird feeders, plant pots or hanging baskets, carpeting for staff house renovation, concrete work, kayaks, climbing wall and ropes course. Support Tecaboca with a donation. Your tax-deductible donations make a difference! We can scholarship more boys and retreatants when you make a donation! If you aren't close enough to come volunteer, but want to help, we will put your dollars to work to make Tecaboca the space that allows people to experience God's presence in their lives. No amount is too small - many hands (or donations) make light work!

Self Assessment Complete
Thank you to all who participated in the Self Assessment Survey or interview that Tecaboca volunteers have been working on. Good information was gained, that will be important for the Board of Ministry to consider as they move through the Strategic Planning Process. If you would like a summary of this information, it is available by emailing Kay at director@tecaboca.com.

Tree Planting at Tecaboca
Many of our oak trees are dying of oak wilt, a mostly untreatable and unstoppable disease marching through the Hill Country. We are replanting, and to date have planted 12 oak -wilt-resistant trees. Recently, St. Mary's Women's ACTS, who retreated in March, have purchased a tree, along with the Watkins Family and the Dietlein Family. A $340 donation will plant a tree and purchase a plaque to leave a message for the next generation.
Contact Kay at director@tecaboca.com for more information.
Additionally, the local Kerrville Public Utilities Electric company has been offering coupons for new trees; local folks have been kind enough to donate their coupons to Tecaboca, so we will soon plant another dozen, smaller, trees.

WOMEN'S RETREAT A HUGE SUCCESS

Thanks to the extraordinary efforts and planning by Erin Fucci and Joanne McCracken from the Cape May Marianist Family Retreat Center, the Women's Retreat in February was a beautiful, inspiring and fun experience for all! Thirty one women gathered through the weekend to reflect on the "Women We Come From." The fellowship, spriritual renewal, and yes, we must include, the food, was great! This will become an annual retreat, and more will be scheduled in the future. Watch your email and our website so you won't miss the next one!

TECABOCA CROSSES AVAILABLE
This sterling silver cross is created by Jim Morris, jewelry designer, based on the carved wooden cross that has stood at Tecaboca since the 50th Anniversary of Tecaboca in 2001. The creator of the carved cross is Erin McGinnis, who has been involved at Tecaboca's Boys Camp and the Marianist Life Program. She continues to support Tecaboca with her many talents.
The interior Cross of the larger wooden cross, which the sterling cross is a replica of, traveled to Rome for all of the ceremonies of the Beatification of Fr. Joseph Chaminade, the Marianist Founder. They were carried by Rey Gustamante to the ceremonies in September of 2000.
The Wooden Cross is silhouetted against the limestone cliffs formed by Johnson Creek. It was at this spot that camper Jimmy Blevins loved to sit because he felt embraced by the arms of God here, and believed that if he was in God's arms, where he was sitting must be at God's Heart. At Tecaboca, we believe that the serenity and sacredness of our grounds can allow the listener to hear God's heartbeat, just as Jimmy did. .
Jimmy Blevins died in a car accident in the Spring of 2001, after the Beatification and before the 50th anniversary of Tecaboca.
Price: $40, shipping is just $3. Order by emailing Kay at director@tecaboca.com. |
