A Recent Publication that we thought you might Enjoy...

Just south of Lexington, amidst the rolling meadows of Kentucky, The Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill is located and serves to this day as a testament to the legacy of the Shakers. Originally serving as an actual Shaker Settlement from 1806 -1910, The Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill exists today as an historical site that is operated by a non-profit corporation with a mission to preserve and maintain the site of the Shaker community that once existed there.
We had the opportunity to visit this wonderful place a few years back, we lodged in the historic Trustee's Building, thoroughly enjoyed our visit and left with inspirations that continue to this day.
Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, 50th Anniversary of the Restoration, by David Toczko, is a beautiful new coffee-table book that brings the Shaker style alive in more than 260 photos of iconic Shaker arts and crafts, architecture and furniture. The book features a foreword by actress and Kentucky native Ashley Judd.
The book's cover depicts the visually stunning spiral staircase in the Trustee's Building. Other photos depict the timeless
ladder-back chairs with taped seats, rocking chairs, cabinets, beds, tables, built-in cupboards, benches, baskets, oval boxes, spinning wheels and looms. The book also includes photos of many of the 34 restored buildings at Shaker Village, with details of architectural features such as fanlight windows and transoms, peg rails, wooden floors, arched doorways and thick limestone walls. See the author/photographer's website,www.lonedakota.com, for ordering information.

Some Recent Interesting Projects.........
Many of our visitors are surprised and delighted to learn that in addition to the hundreds of items that we offer as being "standard" we also offer custom work. In fact a large portion of the work that goes through our workshop is "one-of-a-kind" in nature and crafted for specific individuals with particular needs.
Any size or shape, any wood or color...for any destination...if you can think of it we can build it and get it where it needs to go. The following are just a few of some more recent projects that we thought you might find interesting...
This wonderful little Kitchenette unit was crafted for Deb & Tom's quaint little cottage in Mt. Gretna, PA - Built out of Sugar Pine and finished in our "Red over Honey" painted museum finish.
- Soapstone counters, sink & backsplash. Note the integral drainboard in the left counter.
- Soapstone is shown before being sealed with mineral oil which turns the color to a rich, blackish-green.
- We have often crafted units like this for use as wet bars, laundry areas and for craft/plant purposes in homes.
- This unit measured 62"wide x 25"deep x 36"high, we can craft one for you in any wood, color or size.

This Drop-Leaf 4 Drawer Huntboard was crafted for a client in Princeton, New Jersey. - Built out of Tiger Maple with a custom-matched stain
- Note the rear drop-leaf counter & the wood wheels.
- This piece would make a nice kitchen island that could be used with barstools with the dropleaf opened.
- This piece is patterned after a Shaker original that was built at the Canterbury, New Hampshire Shaker Village c.1840
- The original is depicted in plate 175 in Timothy D. Rieman / Jean M. Burks "The Complete Book of Shaker Furniture." ( 36"h x 72"l x 24"deep leaf down / 36"deep leaf open. )
- We often craft pieces right out of the books for clients and consider them an extension of our catalog. If you have a picture of a piece that you like we can craft it for you.

Another piece crafted for our Princeton, New Jersey client...this Linen Press is a standard item for us...Fred & Joanne just added a custom touch by requesting the two-toned wood combination. - Built out of Cherry & Bird's-Eye Maple
- This piece is also based upon a Shaker Original that is showcased on the cover of Timothy D. Rieman & Jean Burks "The Encyclopedia of Shaker Furniture"
- This fine piece has been popular for holding TV & Stereo equipment. (39"w x 20"d x 56"h)
- The Shaker original was crafted at the South Union, Kentucky Shaker Village c.1830-1840

A new kitchen island design.......
We recently crafted an island like this for a very good client in Rehoboth, Delaware and liked it so much that we have decided to add it to our standard line. Look for it to be added soon to our showroom and website.
While shown in the above image in "antique white" paint with a hand-planed white oak counter, this new island is available in any of our standard woods & finishes as well as other custom selections & sizes.
The island features an open shelf area on one side with 2 shelf surfaces that are 14" deep and a recessed barstool alcove to the rear. The Island shown measures 34"wide x 72"long x 36"high and will accommodate 3 barstools. We can craft an island like this for you in any size, smaller or larger.
A hand-planed countertop that is planked and features bread-board-ends caps off this fine piece, the same durable finish that we use on our table tops is used to finish this counter for years of trouble-free use. This island can be supplied with a countertop of Soapstone or other counter material...it can also be supplied without a top if you would like to source your own.
