Surf + Art Contest on Exhibit at La Jolla Riford Library through mid May
 Our Grand Prize winner of our annual surf-inspired art contest is Tina Aliev of Muirlands Middle School whose art is pictured at left. Her artwork will adorn our 2012 contest t-shirts. The top 40 entries from area middle and high schools, are currently on display at the La Jolla Riford Library and Youth Annex through May 15 at 7555 Draper Avenue, La Jolla, 92037. Many thanks to all our participating schools, art teachers, and art students whose creativity inspired all of us! Many thanks to La Jolla Art Association for co-sponsoring the art contest with us.

Our 12th Annual Menehune Contest at La Jolla Shores is this weekend - Saturday, April 28. In case you were waiting for good surf and weather conditions: "Saturday the 28th should see some light southern hemi swell, around waist high with chest high pluses at south facing breaks. Some NW is likely then too, so it looks like west facing breaks could see some chest high surf." (source swell watch) Sunshine is predicted as well - so come on and join us for a great day of surf and sunshine!
IF you haven't done so already, you may still register online using PayPal from our website. We've got a great day of fun for the entire family - bring your friends and enjoy cheering on your favorite surfer! Kids will be competing in longboard, shortboard, and novice divisions, ages 18 & under. Our Super Menehunes (age 6 & under) are not judged and surf at the end of the day, with their parents helping push them into waves. We have a special heat "DOG" heat this year (Dads of Groms) for our surfing dads and a few slots remain.

Volunteers Welcome! We depend on volunteers to help us host a successful contest - we've still got work to be done, so consider volunteering. We use volunteers for everything - setup, judging, tallying, registration, BBQ, raffle booth, and cleanup. Please contact Stephanie Hoffman, Contest Director, if you can donate a few hours of your time: stephanie@ljssa.org. We'll be hosting a pre-event gathering for all our volunteers this Wednesday, April 25 @ 6pm, at Bird's Surf Shed. Come join us! Please RSVP to Lorraine if you plan on attending.  |
