My favorite club event is coming up - our Annual New Year's Day potluck - and you're all invited. Sunday, New Year's Day, around 9:30 a.m., bring your potluck dish to share - and then take part in our annual group beach photo shortly after.
It's the season of giving, and i'm proud to announce our charity recipients for 2011 - who were nominated and voted on by our membership for support. Thanks to all of you who participated.
We're gearing up for a great 2012 with our surf team, so IF you'd like to participate, let us know. The first contest is @ Church's, just north of San O - and we're sending a full roster. Come along and cheer us weekend of Jan 7 & 8.
Our La Jolla Shores team came in 7th overall in 2011 - a finish many of you contributed to; no one more than our own 2011 MVP Kevin Connelly, who is undisputed king of the Sr. Men's Division (30-39).
We had a great holiday party this December at the VFW Hall in PB where we honored members of our club who have served in the military - we have 12 - thanks to all of you for your service and duty to our country.

SEASON OF GIVING - our 2011 Charitable Recipients Every year our surf club donates cash to several charities from the net proceeds of our Annual Menehune Surf Contest. Thanks to the many contributions both from the public and our members, we were able to fix the beach wheelchair at the Shores. And,as always, we collected toys for our annual holiday toy drive, which Pete Z. (our resident Santa Claus) delivered to Salvation Army Toys for Tots supplemented with toys we purchased with club funds. We're proud to announce the charities receiving our support this year: |
Annual New Year's Day Potluck Sunday, Jan 1
You're all warmly invited, together with family and friends, to join us for our Annual New Year's Day potluck at La Jolla Shores at 9:30 a.m. We'll have tables setup halfway between the Lifeguard Tower and the north bathrooms on the boardwalk to receive your potluck dish. We'll gather after surfing around 9:30 a.m. - and pose for our annual beach photo around 10 a.m. Someone bring a camera. All are welcome - bring your friends and family! It's a great gathering of our La Jolla Shores beach community. Don't miss out.

Celebrating Our Surfing Veterans La Jolla Shores Surfing Association proudly honored our surfing veterans (active and retired) at this year's Holiday Party - those honored included Ben Gyger, Mike DeGiovine, Gary Radel, Freddy D'Aquisto, Blake Lawless, Steve Elias, Pete Zacharzuk Jr. (pictured at right), Phil Bimer, Dave McLeod, Mike Tinsley, Bob Richardson, and Gary Moe. We had all branches of the military service represented including Navy, Army, Marine Corps, Air Force, and more. Thanks to our military servicemen for sharing your stories and photos with us. All received fresh Hawaiian leis! |
