Dear ,
We had a great day for our 11th Annual Menehune Contest in April, and we've now posted our event photos online. My Local Lineup is producing a video that will air on iTV sometime soon. Check out the 4 minute video clip for a sneak preview! The Friends of La Jolla Shores is hosting an "un-whaling" of J.J. the grey whale - a life-sized bronze sculpture - this Sunday at Scripps Birch Aquarium. You're all invited. We've got a club meeting coming up at the end of this month at the La Jolla Brew House on May 25 - come join us. Our youth art contest is still on display at the La Jolla Riford Library through May 31 - check it out. Summer is upon us in a few more weeks - and I hope you've been lucky enough to enjoy a few perfect wind swell days at the Shores these past few weeks before the crowds are upon us!
Take care,
Lorraine Schmalenberger, President, La Jolla Shores Surfing Assoc.

Club Meeting WED. May 25 at La Jolla Brew House - 6PM
Please join us for our May meeting and special program, featuring local author and surfer Marshall Lubin. He will be presenting a program featuring photos from his trip around the world and the adventure of a lifetime. His book, "From Boys 2 Men, an Adventure in Paradise" has been nominated as a finalist in the local San Diego book awards.
Marshall circumnavigated the planet at a time when the world was a different place - the 1960s. Come experience his serendipitous journey like those only seen in the movies, books of fiction or our imaginations, only this story is true. His journey involved sailing, fishing, a near death experience, and yes, of course, surfing - from the Hawaiian Islands, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Australia, and beyond - come join us to hear Marshall as he narrates this amazing journey. Kids and families are welcome.
You're all invited; and I'm sure the La Jolla Brew House will have some brew and food specials just for us. (no host bar/food). Contact Lorraine, surf club President, for more information: 858.692.5235

SURF ART SHOW EXTENDED La Jolla Riford Library through May 31
Click on the image at right to see more wonderful art submitted by our top winners in the surf art show at the La Jolla Riford Library. Due to popular demand, the art show, which features 40 of our top entries from local area schools around town, will be extended through the end of this month.
Christian Gimber of La Jolla High School was this year's Grand Prize winner and his design, pictured at right, was featured on our Menehune Contest t-shirts. We have some t-shirts for sale - if you're interested, please contact Lorraine.
Click on the image at right which takes you to our online album featuring the top winners in this year's event. Thanks especially to the Youth librarian, Laura Bailey, for her support, and to all the art teachers who continue to inspire and support the creative talent of our youth. We're looking for someone to help us coordinate next year's youth art contest - please contact Lorraine if you are interested.
