 Malibu Classic Sept 11-12
lj shores team results
Thanks to all our surf team members representing La Jolla Shores at the annual MSA Classic in Malibu - we came in 11th overall as a team. Special congratulations are in order for Stephanie Hoffman, taking 1st place in the Sr. Women's Division, and to Kevin Connelly, for taking 2nd in the Sr. Men's division. The excitement, however, was provided by our own Cameron Lapuaho, age 13, pictured above, who impaled his foot on an old piece of rebarb while free surfing with Brett Hoffman between heats. Thanks to the heroics of Brett, first responder, who paddled in and ran for help, and dad Art Lapuaho, who displayed superman strength to save his son while the lifeguards debated what to do - pulling Cameron off the 10 mm wide rusty spike, and hauling him to shore. All noted Cameron's awesome calm demeanor throughout the emergency. Mom Bella reports he's recovering well, hobbling on crutches, while being sidelined from swimming, surfing, and water polo for a while. Thanks to our PB Surf Club friend Ron Greene of Slide Magazine for providing the photos, while managing to take 6th place for us in the Legends Division. ANNUAL MEETING & BOARD ELECTIONS
Please join us for our annual meeting and election of board officers this WED. Sept 22 @ 6:30 pm at the La Jolla Recreation Center, 615 Prospect St. We'll provide pizza and sodas - all are welcome! Note, we'll also be accepting nominations for charities to receive proceeds from our 2010 Menehune Contest. We support charities that you, the members, support, and we're most proud of this tradition. We'll vote on the charities to receive our funding at the next club meeting in October, and all dues paying members will get a chance to vote. This is an important way you can make a difference in our community. Hope to see all of you there!  TAKE BACK THE BEACH PICNIC SUNDAY SEPT. 26 - 5PM
celebrate the summer that never was....
It's been one bummer of a summer with no sun and little surf; but we're still looking for an excuse to party - so come join us in this September tradition as we come together for a BBQ potluck on the beach. Look for us at the fire pit between Tower 32 & 33 under our blue LJSSA canopy. We'll provide the BBQ, drinks, picnic supplies, and firewood. You bring something to BBQ and a side dish to share if you'd like. We'll have a fire, and hopefully a beautiful sunset. Bring the family - guests are also welcome! |
SPECIAL EXCLUSIVE - SAVE THE DATE
Tour Scripps Oceanographic Collections with our surf club!
 We are proud to be teaming up with Scripps Environmental Advocates (SEA), a local charity that supports the Scripps Oceanographic Institute, to bring you this exclusive behind the scenes tour of the Scripps Collections, a world treasure right here in our backyard. The tour will include a look at Scripp's marine collections containing some of the world's most important libraries of marine life specimens and rock and sediment samples. This event - scheduled for Thursday evening, October 21, will be by invitation only, to current members and sponsors of La Jolla Shores Surfing Association. Save the date. |
