SPECIAL NEEDS SWIM LESSONS

Ages 3 - adult

We now offer swim lessons geared toward individuals with special needs ages 3 and up. Sessions are designed to meet the needs of each individual by offering (8) 15-minute classes with 1:1 instruction (1 swimmer to 1 instructor). Classes are held M-Th in a time slot between 6pm-6:45pm.  Cost:$40/session for residents and $55/session for non-residents. Financial assistance available.

BOWLING PRACTICES
Every Monday Excluding Holidays 
SP-BowlingPractice is held every Monday, excluding holidays, at the Altamonte AMF Lanes  from 3-5pm. Cost is $2 per game. Scores are recorded throughout the year and trophies are awarded at the Banquet with participant's high score.

NEW... PIZZA MONDAYS!
Pizza will be sold for $1.75 a slice on the last Monday of each month.


Special Olympics Bowling:
Bowlers who attend AS Recreation's Monday practices are eligible for Special Olympics. To find out more and register, visit the "Sports" page at  SpecialOlympicsSeminoleCounty.org or click here. The deadline to register is Monday, July 30, 2012. Other training sites are also available.

On Monday, June 11, 2012, bowlers celebrated the end of a great season with food, family, friends and TROPHIES! Over 90 bowlers received a trophy with their High Score prepared by the hard working men of the VFW. Congratulations Bowlers on a wonderful season!

BELLY DANCE
Fun, Exercise, and Performance Opportunities

Our Special Needs Belly Dancers & family members meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at Eastmonte Park to exercise & prepare for performances from 6:30-7:30pm. Cost:$15/season. Financial Assistance Available. Family members/guests dance free.

SUMMER CAMP

Campers enjoyed the first month of fun

Summer Camp started in June and the campers are off to a great start! Thanks to all the great volunteers who stepped up to help, we are able to offer summer camp to 90 campers this year, nearly doubling last years count!!

 

The campers have created scrapbooks and visited the Science Center, Kee Wee Entertainment and the Bowling Alley! They have also enjoyed many special guest visits from: Mad Science, Game Truck, and a musical visit from Central Florida Community Arts.

OUT OF OFFICE

Wishing Vinnie a speedy recovery

Vinnie Coon, supervisor of Special Community Services, will be out of the office until September. She will be taking time to rest and get better, but misses all the participants and sends her love!

 

If your participant would like to send a get well card, please mail them to our office and we will get them to her. Summer Campers have already sent a signed poster and cards.

NIGHTBIRD DANCES

Dances Resume in Fall 2012

Themed dances are held one Friday per month from 7-9pm. Cost is $2 per participant and $1 per companion/family member/guest. Dances are usually held at Eastmonte Park, excluding our June pool party which is held at Westmonte Park. Update: Only drinks and light snacks will be served.


Prizes awarded for dance contest winners, costume contest winners & birthdays! If you have a group home or a large party, please call in advance and we will reserve your group a table(s).

 

*Please bring a canned good to support the Advisory Board's food pantry... Assisting over 80 people per month who are in need.

S.T.O.P. TRIPS

"Saturday Time Out for Parents"

STOP Trips take place one Saturday a month and are socially, physically and educationally beneficial field trips. Cost: $3 per person with lunch provided. Drop off and pick up is at Eastmonte Park. *Feel free to send souvenir money for trips.

THURSDAY NIGHT OUT 

Westmonte Park from 7:30-8:30pm

"Thursday Night Outs" are held on the 3rd and 4th Thursday of the month. They are designed to allow participants to get together and just have some fun! Events are held at Westmonte Park from 7:30-8:30pm. Cost: $1.00 with refreshments.   *Please let us know if you will be attending the cooking class.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP FORMS REQUIRED
Turn your form in TODAY! 
Every calendar year, we update our participant forms, previously known as Medical Release Form. This form is now called the "Annual Membership Form". This form must be on file for participants to take part in our activities. Forms do not need a doctors signature and can be completed by a parent or guardian. Every participant must update this form annually.  
 

After completed form is received, participant will be added to quarterly mailing list and monthly e-newsletter. Then participant can begin attending events of their choice. (Select programs require reservation or additional registrations).

The Special Community Services' office has been moved to a new building. It is still located at Eastmonte Park, but can be found in the building to the right of the park's entrance gate. The physical address is 837 Magnolia Drive.
