 The City of Altamonte Springs - Special Community Services and the Advisory Board for the Disabled, Inc. provide social and recreational activities at a minimal cost to the mentally and physically challenged population, ages 13 and up in Altamonte Springs and surrounding communities.

Turn your form in TODAY! 
Every calendar year, we update our participant forms, previously known as Medical Release Form. This form is now called the "Annual Membership Form". This form must be on file for participants to take part in our activities. Forms do not need a doctors signature and can be completed by a parent or guardian. Every participant must update this form annually.  

After completed form is received, participant will be added to quarterly mailing list and monthly e-newsletter. Then participant can begin attending events of their choice. (Select programs require reservation or additional registrations).

"Saturday Time Out for Parents"

STOP Trips take place one Saturday a month and are socially, physically and educationally beneficial field trips. Cost: $3 per person with lunch provided. Drop off and pick up is at Eastmonte Park. *Feel free to send souvenir money for trips.

You must RSVP on the designated day a week prior to the trip by phone or email. Reservations are taken in the order received. Only one message is required. Space is limited. Please send your reservation to only: 407-571-8814 or

Friday, February 10, 2012 - Sweetheart's Dance

SP- DanceThemed dances are held one Friday per month from 7-9pm. Cost is $2 per participant and $1 per companion/family member/guest. Dances are usually held at Eastmonte Park, excluding our June pool party which is held at Westmonte Park. Update: Only drinks and light snacks will be served.

Prizes awarded for dance contest winners, costume contest winners & birthdays! If you have a group home or a large party, please call in advance and we will reserve your group a table(s).


*Please bring a canned good to support the Advisory Board's food pantry... Assisting over 80 people per month who are in need.  

The Oviedo-Winter Springs Optimist Club and Oviedo Parks and Recreation now offer dances on alternate evenings. Please click here for 2011-2012 schedule.

We have been invited to watch a taping of IMPACT Wrestling at Universal Studios on February 29, 2012. It stars Hulk Hogan, Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy, Rob Van Dam, Rick Flair and many, many other stars. 


This event is FREE and we get front row seats! After the show, you will also get a Meet and Greet and photo op with some of the wrestlers as well as complimentary IMPACT T-shirts! There will be indoor pyrotechnics (indoor fireworks at the start of the show) as well as non-stop action! For info about the show go to www.IMPACTWrestling.com.


If you are interested in attending, please RSVP no later than February 10, 2012. Space is limited. Transportation/supervision provided or you can meet us there. Please plan on bringing money for dinner/snacks.

Every Monday Excluding Holidays 
SP-BowlingPractice is held every Monday, excluding holidays, at the Altamonte AMF Lanes  from 3-5pm. Cost is $2 per game. Scores are recorded throughout the year and trophies are awarded at the Banquet with participant's high score.

Pizza will be sold for $1.75 a slice on the last Monday of each month.

SP-Ballroom DancingOur next Ballroom workshop is scheduled to start on Sunday, February 5, 2012. Registration opened on Tuesday, January 3, 2012. Only a few spots are left in the SILVER time slot. Register before Wednesday, Feb 1.

Westmonte Park from 7:30-8:30pm

"Thursday Night Outs" are held on the 3rd and 4th Thursday of the month. They are designed to allow participants to get together and just have some fun! Events are held at Westmonte Park from 7:30-8:30pm. Cost: $1.00 with refreshments.

Fun, Exercise, and Performance Opportunities

Our Special Needs Belly Dancers & family members meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at Eastmonte Park to exercise & prepare for performances from 6:30-7:30pm. Cost:$15/season. Financial Assistance Available. Family members/guests dance free.

One month of fun complete

SP-FirestationThis session of Winter Camp has more campers registered then ever before! Thanks to the support of many wonderful volunteer counselors, we were able to register 37 general campers and 11 assisted campers! WOAH!


During the month of January, campers enjoyed a martial arts lesson, baking muffins, zumba, bowling, making pottery, and visiting the Sanford Airport Fire station.

The Advisory Board for The Disabled and the Altamonte Christian School will be joining together to host the SPRING SPRINT 5K RUN/WALK at Cranes Roost Park in Altamonte Springs on April 28, 2012. 
Funds raised will helps support our many programs, including STOP Trips, Nightbird Dances and more!

The Special Community Services' office has been moved to a new building. It is still located at Eastmonte Park, but can be found in the building to the right of the park's entrance gate. The physical address is 837 Magnolia Drive.
