Hello Friend of Kelmann!

We are looking forward to a great 2012!  Looking back, while 2011 was filled with many challenges, the opportunities far outweighed the obstacles and for that we are thankful. We have some fresh faces here at Kelmann Property Restoration and share a renewed sense of enthusiasm. Reminds us of the saying: "The only thing that remains constant is change." Restoration is an awesome profession. Never lacking challenge, our work puts us in the unique position to help people in their time of real need. It's what we do and what we are good at.  With that said, take a quick peak at our first newsletter of 2012.  And also, have a very happy New Year!

Candles: Enjoy Them At Your Own Risk
Each year candles are blamed for causing an estimate 15,600 US residential structure fires with a price tag of nearly 540 million dollars in direct property damage.
  • Over half (55%) of home candle fires start because the candle is too close to some combustible material.
  • More candle fires (38%) begin in the bedroom than in any other room.
  • Falling asleep is a factor in 12% of home candle fires and 26% of the associated deaths.
  • Half of all civilian candle fire deaths occur between Midnight and 6am.
  • December is the peak month for candle fires; Christmas is the peak day.
  • The risk of a fatal candle fire appears higher when candles are used for light.

So here are some candle safety tips.  Enjoy them, but realize the risk!

  • If you do use candles, ensure they are in sturdy metal, glass, or ceramic holders and placed where they cannot be easily knocked down.
  • Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets.
  • Set a good example by using matches, lighters, and fire carefully.
  • Never put candles on a Christmas tree.
  • Never leave the house with candles burning.
  • Extinguish candles after use.
  • Consider using LED candles as an alternative.
  • And NEVER leave burning candles unattended!

Christmas Tidings At The Guest House
This year, as in past, a group of Kelmann employees spent their Christmas morning providing breakfast for the clients of Milwaukee's Guest House. The Guest House provides shelter, housing, education and services to Milwaukee's homeless who seek to transform their lives with dignity and purpose. Spending Christmas morning with those less fortunate, as well as supplying a hearty and healthy holiday meal, tells us much about this group of people. As in the world of disaster restoration, compassion, care and kindness go a long, long  way.
