June 2010
|
|
Hello Friends of Kelmann, June, the past few years, has proven to be quite a diabolical month. In 2008, some areas of southern Wisconsin received up 14 inches of rain. Last year, one heavy storm dumped as much as 5 1/2 inches in our area. And again this year, heavy rains and tornado's have ravaged our region. Throughout all this, Kelmann Corporation has helped many families, businesses and churches with their sometimes, catastrophic problems. It's what we do.

| New EPA Lead Safe Practice Rules | Common
renovation activities like sanding, cutting, and demolition can create
hazardous lead dust and chips by disturbing lead-based paint. This can
be harmful to adults and children. To protect against this risk, on
April 22, 2008, the EPA / Wis. DHS issued a rule requiring the use of lead-safe
practices and other actions aimed at preventing lead poisoning. Under
the rule, beginning April 22, 2010, contractors performing renovation,
repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes,
child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified
and must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. Kelmann team members have been trained and certified by the Wis. DHS approved training providers to follow lead-safe work practices. We have also hosted several seminars providing information to our business partners requiring these new regulations. Musty Basement? Keep It Dry!
|
Air is one thing that home owners often overlook with regard to
keeping basements dry. The dirty, musty smell that we are all familiar with, is caused by high humidity interacting with organic items in
basements. That odor is actually the volatile organic compounds (VOC'S)
which are often associated with mold growth. Much like bulk water, high
humidity can cause mold or other biological issues within your home. A
key to reducing humidity in basements during summer is proper
dehumidification. Utilizing a newer, energy efficient and a properly sized
dehumidifier will keep your basement dry in the upcoming humid
months. Some dehumidification tips: Have the dehue emptying directly into a drain utilizing a short hose.
Make sure that your new dehue is properly rated for the size of your
basement. Too big is better than too small.
Periodically check that the dehue is working properly.
For larger basements, Therma-Stor has awesome dehumidifier
options.
