The Region Sports Network is proud to team with Indiana University Northwest to bring you the Academic All-Star program, where each week we'll be naming and recognizing a Calumet RegionHala student-athlete for excellence in the classroom. The Academic All-Star is brought to you by IU Northwest, where students letter in success.

This week's Girls Academic All-Star is Hala Filipowicz, a Senior from Marquette Catholic High School.

Athletics: Hala runs cross country and track, and plays soccer and basketball for Marquette Catholic. She is Captain of the track team and has received the Blazer award, as well as the most-improved award for cross country.

Academics: Hala has a GPA of 4.23 on a 4.0 scale, with a score of 2010 on her SAT and 31 on her ACT. She is president of the National Honors Society and has received the Ed Paine Scholar for History award. She is part of the drama club and adventure club, and is involved with tutoring and Habitat for Humanity. She also participated in a mission trip to the Dominican Republic this past summer.

Hala is undecided on where she will attend college, but she would like to major in Pre-Med. She is the daughter of Dr. Roman Filipowicz and Ms. Peggy Rose.

Nomination was submitted by Kerrie Schludecker, Athletic Director at Marquette Chatholic High School.

 

The following has been released by The Indiana Coaches of Girls' Sports Association:

 

Senior Katie Clancy has been named to the 2010 Indiana All-Star Volleyball Team.  She is the onlykatie clancy senior from her area named to any team of the All-Star Tournament.

 

Katie will represent Marquette Catholic High School Sunday, November 21st at 2:30 p.m. EST at Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis.

 

Katie was also named to the Volleyball All-State First Team earlier this month.

 

In addition to volleyball, Katie is also a captain of the Varsity Tennis Team, a student ambassador and is involved in peer ministry.

 

Katie is the daughter of Mr. Bob and Mrs. Leigh Clancy.
