FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MARQUETTE CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL RECEIVES DR. SCHOLL FOUNDATION GRANT TO FUND "LEARNING ANYTIME, ANYWHERE" PROJECT.
Michigan City, Indiana - November 10, 2010 - Marquette Catholic High School's Principal Mr. James G. White announces today that the school has been awarded a $10,000 (total amount applied for - $16,300) grant from The Dr. Scholl Foundation in order to fund their Learning Anytime, Anywhere project.
The purpose of this project is to expand learning opportunities in the classroom and open-media areas. During the past two years, Marquette has been awarded funding from various sources. The Dr. Scholl Foundation, the Michigan City Community Enrichment Corporation and State grants have afforded Marquette's teachers the opportunity to utilize technology in the classroom via the purchase and installation of Promethean Boards and visual projectors. Along with these added technologies came the expansion of the school's wireless campus and installation of a fiber optic network.
Marquette Catholic High School was looking to enhance the learning equation by placing technology in the hands of its students. In order to do this, the school was seeking funding in order to add notebooks and netbooks to their wireless environment. The goal was to place computer technology and software accessibility in the hands of the students anywhere on campus. This mobile technology allows students access to Marquette's Rosetta Stone World Language software, the Microsoft Office Suite and web browsing in all classrooms and media areas.
When the entire project is funded, Marquette's science department will receive netbooks to record, track and present data through the use of modern probes and lab equipment. Notebooks will be added to the Writing lab as the school transitions from desktops to notebooks as notebooks will allow students open access in Marquette's media areas and at the same time expand current Language Learning opportunities with Rosetta Stone.
Mr. White states, "Expanding learning opportunities and access for all students is the primary goal of Learning Anytime, Anywhere. We are extremely grateful to the Dr. Scholl Foundation for their continued support of projects we pursue. Marquette Catholic High School is able to accomplish great things due to their generosity and belief in what we do at Marquette. Everyday we work at creating opportunities to expand what we offer our students in order to broaden their thinking and achieving. 100% of our students graduate and go on to college - and it is our responsibility to help them prepare for that."
