Hoosier Boys & Girls State
The American Legion sponsors Boys and Girls State
each year. The program is a week long learning experience in theory,
organization, and practical application of the process of our democratic form
of government. The program provides the youth of Indiana a first hand insight into the rights
and responsibilities of a citizen under our government. Boys State
will be held June 12-19 at Trine University in Angola,
Indiana. Girls State
will be held June 20-26 at Indiana State University
in Terre Haute, IN. Principal Jim White announces today that Marquette Catholic High
School's Boys State delegates for 2010 are Conner Post (son of Ray & Karen
Post), Matthew Pomranke (son of Daryl & Linda Pomranke), Joe McQuillin (son
of Ron & Teresa McQuillin), and Ben Dabkowski (son of Bob & Kathy
Dabkowski). Marquette's Girls State delegates are Emmy Welsh (daughter of Dan
& Helen Welsh), Livy Haas (daughter of Tim & Andi
Haas), Hala Filipowicz (daughter of Roman Filipowicz & Peggy Rose), and Anna Lei (daughter of Xiang &
Yi Lei). Mr. White states, "Boys and Girls
State is a very
impressive program. Students come away
from this with a great appreciation and understanding of our government. Marquette
students are extremely aware of how our country operates and understand the
importance of having a voice and making it heard. We have an exceptional representation of
students attending this year and we are thrilled with this opportunity for them
to participate."
The Marquette community would like to thank the following sponsors for
their generosity: American Legion Post
451 and the Auxiliary, SAL, Tri Kappa Sorority, and Mr. Dick Schaefer.
