Hello All! This is our December 2011 Newsletter. As you all know by now, all newsletters will be delivered ELECTRONICALLY. If you would like to receive additional copies at other addresses, simply click on the JOIN OUR LIST link and complete the request. REMEMBER... we no longer MAIL any communications out. So, if you know someone that says they are not receiving anything from the club, remind them to either go to the website and sign up for communications, or call Vivian at (262) 781-7506 to be placed on the SNAIL MAIL list so they can still receive a "printed" copy of all communications.
Your comments and questions are welcome.

President's Corner, Bob Turowski |
Opening Day may be quickly approaching. General Mgr. Dennis Evinrude and his team have been making snow as weather permits. The next couple days look optimistic for making snow, however the forecast into next week has the potential of slowing our progress towards building our base. Keep your fingers crossed for colder temps throughout the nights.
Anxious as many members may be, it's important to understand that we strive to build a sustainable base early in the season so that we can remain open during intermittent warm periods. While this might delay our opening a bit, it always proves beneficial across the ski season during warm periods. With some luck, Mother Nature will co-operate over the next few weeks and we'll be making tracks at our great ski club in short order. To keep up with the Opening Day progress, check our website and web cam at "ausblick.org" or call the club at 262-246-3090 for Dennis' status message.
Welcome to all the new members who have joined the club this season, and welcome back for another season to our longstanding membership. It was my pleasure to meet many of the new members during the Orientation meetings; Thank You for taking the time to attend. For our returning membership, I ask everyone review the Code of Conduct & Club Rules with all family members prior to your first trip out this season. Information within the documents is intended to make everyone's experience at Ausblick a safe and enjoyable time throughout the season. Thank You in advance for your co-operation.
In closing I'd like to recognize the Board Members and Club staff for all they've done throughout the
off-season. Their dedication and energies behind the scenes provide our membership the unique experience we at Ausblick Ski Club enjoy throughout the ski season.
Happy Holidays to all our Membership

 Manager's Message & News
Holiday Greetings To All. As I write this the pump house is going full throttle and we are making base as fast as we can. Wes Cashwell and Ian Mortimer having been working hard through the nights while Jerry Morrison and Rick Bull are minding the system during daytime operations. My job is to help them solve the problems as they creep up, and they always do. We are anticipating a warm up Saturday/Sunday which will end snowmaking before we have enough to open any particular slope. We will let our snow stay encapsulated in piles in an effort to minimize any damage from possible rain. As soon as the temperature drops again we will resume snowmaking operations and hopefully get enough to "git er dun". As always, I will try to keep you informed as possible by web message and answering machine. We will send out an Email blast as soon as we can confirm an opening date. In the meantime I hope you are making plans to enjoy some quality family time with your loved ones. After all, this is the most magical time of the year!!! PS. Watch the Web site for new photos of the extensive chairlift repairs performed in the off season. I think you will amazed at what you see. Bless You All, Dennis Evinrude General Manager Ausblick Ski Area Office 262-246-3090 Email: DEvinrude@Ausblick.org |
SKI SCHOOL NOTES by Jim Polaski, Ski School Director |
Here we GO...
The Instructors have completed their Fall Dry Land Training and the skis and boards are waxed... we are ready for you!
We are planning to begin lessons on Saturday December 17th... snow permitting. The calls and emails have already been coming in to make appointments. Looks like it will be another busy your for your Ski School. That is perfect... we LOVE IT.
Don't forget... there will be no "Saturday" special group this year... only "Friday" night! Sign-up soon if you have not already as the registrations are coming in and it looks like we may fill up before Christmas.
Also, do not wait until the last minute to make your "private" lessons appointments, the prime spots are filling already. If you want a 10am start on either Saturday or Sunday, it is a good idea to call ahead. Those slots always go first. However, we are available every weekend from 10am - 4pm.
While we wait for that snow to fly... get out those Boots and Snow Suits and try them on. Do not be caught off guard when that first weekend comes and find out that things no longer fit. Gear is flying off the shelves at our local shops. Buy or Rent EARLY to avoid disappointment.
REMEMBER - Even kids skis need a good tune annually. If there appears to any rust or nicks on the edges they need sharpening. If the bases appear to be chalky or dry, have them waxes. A ski with a good tune is easier to turn and really speeds up the learning process!
Feel free to call at anytime you have questions or want to schedule an appointment.

SOCIAL HAPPENINGS by Julie Lawrence, Social Director | |
Social Events of the 2011-'12 Ski Season
Just wanted to send out a reminder to all Ausblick members about the
social events that you can look forward to this ski season:
(2) Ladies Ski Days = 1/31/12 & 2/22/12
(2) Men's Ski Days = 1/26/12 & 3/8/12
Adult-only Valentine Party = 2/11/12
Each event will have a detailed flyer with all of the information you'll need to know. All flyers will be posted on the website before the end of December. In order to attend any event, you must complete the reservation form, attach your payment & turn in by the deadline. Our reservation process has become very detailed so please pay close attention to all of the registration requirements and deadlines clearly stated on each flyer. Your understanding and cooperation is appreciated. And please don't wait until the last minute to sign up...you may miss out!
Here are a few details to keep in mind for all Ausblick parties:
1. Registration forms must be filled out completely & must include payment.
(Payments can only be made by a member)
2. Cash is no longer accepted for any party. Please pay by check or credit card.
3. You must register for each party separately. This makes things easier for your party hosts.
4. If you are bringing guests to any event, please make sure that ALL guests complete a waiver, and it gets turned in to the front desk.
5. Deadlines are final; most parties are catered and counts are required prior to each event.
All social events are hosted by fellow members. These wonderful volunteers work very hard to plan and coordinate each event. If you would like to add your name to our list of volunteers, we would love to hear from you!
If questions come up that haven't been covered, please feel free to call.
Thank you & looking forward to the SNOW!!!

Ski Patrol
While we all have been waiting patiently for the snow to fly, the Ausblick Ski patrol started the year in July with David Kleinschmidt our Instructor of Record (IOR), kicking off the season overseeing our Outdoor Emergency Care classes. Three Ausblick members, Ted Skelton, Scott Robertson and David Skaggs, completed the Emergency Care, CPR and Chair Evacuation segments of the program this pre-ski season. Once we open for the season, they'll be taught On-Hill/Toboggan Skills prior to completing all required training.
The year proved challenging with the introduction of the 5th edition of the Outdoor Emergency Care course curriculum. Many changes have occurred and in October the entire Ausblick Ski patroller attended an all day recertification class. This is an annual continuing education requirement of the National Ski Patrol organization to keep us proficient with our skills and knowledge. In addition, all patrollers completed the new CPR/AED guidelines course this fall as well.
We are looking forward to a safe and hopefully accident free season. We all control our abilities on the slope and need to remember the skier/snowboarder responsibility code. Stay in control, look up hill before entering a trail and be careful when merging into other trails.
If you may be interested in information regarding joining the Ausblick Patrol, please contact myself or one of the patrollers.
Have a great and safe season,
Scott Livingston
Patrol Representative
