Presidents Corner

by Rick Ludwig, Club President

We have been having a great 2010 -2011 ski season at Ausblick. Between the snow we made and the natural snow we received, the hill conditions have been excellent as usual. We should be able to overcome the warm spell and still have great ski conditions for the rest of the season.

The Ski Patrol Carnival was a big success. Blue, sunny skies and comfortable temperatures added to the fun of all the activities that the Ski Patrol had at the carnival. The celebration of Dennis Evinrude's 40 years at Ausblick included many pictures from over the years, a snow cake with 40 "candles" and a portrait painted on the hill.

We still have one Ladies Day and one Men's Day left this season, which are always fun events. I encourage all of you to continue to check our website, www.ausblick.org  for all current operations and events information.

In closing, I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the 2010 - 2011 ski season. Even when there is no snow left in your yard, we will have the best spring skiing conditions of any ski hill in the area, so keep coming to Ausblick.

Managers Message

 by Dennis Evinrude, General Manager

Hello,

I hope you have enjoyed the season so far. From my perspective it has been great. I want to touch on two items in this message.  Item number 1 is the our new rule on limiting parties to no more than 2 tables on busy days. You have all cooperated wonderfully and I could not be happier with your willingness to share tables  on those busy days. My heartfelt thanks for understanding  the need to do this and working together to achieve our common goal.

The second item concerns when we do and do not groom after fresh snow. In an ideal world all fresh snow would fall straight down just like we imagine it does in the mountains. In reality, most storms are followed by high winds that start to rearrange that snow and in many cases blow the snow clean off the slope. In the case of the big blizzard we sent out a "packer" in the middle of the snowfall portion in an attempt to retain some of that snow. The next day the high winds stripped large areas of the fresh snow completely off the run leaving track indentations on the ski surface.  The idea that there would be a quantity of fresh powder to ski on was not to become a reality. The reality was 3-4 ft. drifts in some areas and bare base in others. Because we have to tailor the hill to the majority "ski ability" of our members we generally groom out conditions that we feel would be detrimental to the safety of our members. Early on Tuesday morning, February 22nd, we received 2-3 inches of fresh snow that stayed in place. We groomed only the Bunny's Run, Racer's Run, and ½ Big Dipper. All woods runs were left untouched.  When it is possible we will leave fresh snow on some portion of the hill for those that are able to ski it. Thanks for understanding!!!

Ski School Notes

by Jim Polaski, Ski School Director

TIME IS RUNNING OUT...

Your Ski School has been hard at work again this season and on track to set a new record for number of lessons taught. BUT, I would like to remind you all to CALL AHEAD for appointments to assure we can meet your individual needs. You should be aware that we are available for lessons Saturday and Sunday from 10am-3pm. However, the most popular times go quickly, so call ahead to avoid disappointment.

Those of you that have "pre-purchased" packages of lessons should call me soon to reserve times. Do not get caught by surprise with an early spring thaw. We are here for you until March 20th, but Mother Nature always has the upper hand.

You can make an appointment by call the Ski School Office:

 262-820-3616 (weekends between 10am-3pm)

OR During the week call: Jim's Cell:
                    414-254-9011 (days and evenings)

You can also email ANYTIME:
                    skischool@ausblick.org
                    website: www.ausblick.org/skischoolpage.htm

All of us in the ski school feel blessed to work with such a great group of members every weekend. We love what we do and want to deliver the very best lessons that we can. If there is ever anything we can do to better meet your needs, do not hesitate to let us know.

See you on the Snow !!!
