PRESIDENTS CORNER by Rick Ludwig, President |
Ausblick has been having a great season. We have been open all scheduled hours, except for one Saturday night and Sunday. After that rainy weekend, we were lucky to get a cold spell so Dennis and his snowmaking crew fired up our snow-making system and we made snow to increase our base and snow cover on all of our runs. Then Mother Nature blessed up with a substantial snowfall. Because of this, Ausblick will have great snow conditions for the rest of the season. We hope you all continue to come to Ausblick to enjoy your Club. We will keep our regular schedule as long as our members continue to come out and ski/snowboard. As the season winds down, remember to check the Hill phone message, the website and your emails from Ausblick for any schedule changes. At Ausblick, we are always concerned about the safety of our members and guests on our runs. The Board has asked the Ski Patrol and the Lift Staff to be even more vigilant in stopping and talking to unsafe skiers and snowboarders. This is for their safety as well as the safety of all the others on the Hill at the same time. Skiing and snowboarding is about turning. Even in the World Cup and Olympic Downhill races, the skiers are still making turns. Tucking and Bombing straight down any of our runs is unsafe, especially on weekends when our runs are the busiest. For that reason, it is prohibited as stated in the Safety section of our Club Rules.
I hope you all enjoy the rest of our season. Please remember that Ausblick will have the best spring skiing conditions of any ski hill in the area. In closing I want to give a BIG THANK YOU to all those that contribute to making our season a great success: Our Hill Manager Dennis, his management staff, the lift staff, the office staff, the grooming staff, the snowmaking crew, the Ski Patrollers, the Ski Instructors, the Board members and last but not least, the Ausblick Members.

SKI SCHOOL NOTES by Jim Polaski, Ski School Director |
| Ski School is STILL OPEN...
The Ski School will continue to provide lessons until SUNDAY MARCH 14th. After that day we will be taking a break and many of us heading out for our annual trips to PLAY.
All of us would like to thank you for what was a record season for us. As of Sunday February 21st we have booked more lessons this season than any other year in our history, with 3 weeks to go!!!
We hope that you all enjoyed the time we spent together as much as we have. If you can not tell, we truely enjoy what we do and look forward every season of skiing and boarding with our Ausblick FRIENDS.
Happy Spring, Enjoy your Summer, and we will see you next year! |
SKI PATROL ROOM by Bob Turowski, Board Member and Past Patrol Director |
THANK YOU - From the Ausblick Ski Patrol Please accept our sincere "thanks" for your generous contributions and participation at last Sunday's Ski Patrol Carnival. Once again, the Ausblick Membership and Guests have demonstrated their confidence and support in the Ausblick Patrol. In return, we remain committed to providing a safe skiing environment here at Ausblick, along with a high level of emergency care offered in the event of an accident at the ski club. A Safety Reminder Attendance was outstanding as a result of members and guests taking advantage of the carnival events. Great weather this year contributed to a high level of excitement out on the hill; however a few safety related issues were noticed which warrant mentioning. First of all, our responsibility code requires a device to help prevent runaway equipment. Most of us are familiar with "ski breaks" and "snowboard straps". During carnival, there were 2 runaway snowboards that had the potential of injuring someone. Ski breaks must be in working order and snowboard straps must be present and used while on the hill. If you require a strap, they are available at the front desk of the lodge. Secondly, we stress that quick hockey stops in front of "friends" is potentially hazardous. It may be fun IF done successfully, however if your skis/snowboard fails to stop you, someone will most likely be injured, possibly severely. When an accident does happen, it often involves other members/guests who won't think kindly of being injured. Lastly, if you invite guests to Ausblick, please advise them of our ski/snowboard policies, both on and off the hill. Equipment must be placed in the racks when not in use to avoid someone tripping over them and skis, poles and snowboards are not allowed within the lodge, with the exception of moving them to & from the locker room. Your understanding and co-operation in the above safety issues will continue to make Ausblick the safe and premiere ski club we all enjoy.

SOCIAL HAPPENINGS by Julie Lawrence, Social Director |
As we get close to the end of another wonderful ski season, we know that many of you will look back and smile at the fun times we all had at the club! I hope that you were able to attend some if not most of the social events that Ausblick held this season! We were very fortunate that the weather cooperated and of course Dennis and his crew maintained excellent hill conditions for the New Year's Eve Party, the Men's & Ladies Ski Days & the Valentine's Party. Now it's your turn...do you have ideas/suggestions for changes to current parties? Maybe you have ideas for future events that you'd like to see at the club? Many have thought that an "End of Season" party with an outdoor BBQ on the deck would be fun. Others have tossed around the idea of having a summer party...what ever your thoughts are, please share them. Send me an e-mail through Dennis at evinrude@ausblick.org . All social events are hosted by your fellow members, who volunteer their time to plan and execute each event. I'd like to put the call out to the members to think about assisting with upcoming Ausblick events. We're looking for some members interested in joining a "Social Planning Group" that can work together with all aspects of party planning such as set-up & decorations, clean up, brainstorming new ideas, etc. The events are only as good as the volunteers! Please consider being a volunteer for a party next year. And finally, I'd like to send out a huge THANKS to our party hosts this year...The Beckers, Payleitners & Polaski's hosted wonderful events this season! The club appreciates all that you do!! Thanks also to those gracious members who assisted with party clean up...your help was SO appreciated! |
WEBSITE DESK by Jim Stein, Website Coordinator |
Some members have expressed interest in posting items for sale (ski places to rent, too) or "wants". Yet, no one has submitted anything to list. So, I initiated the opportunity with one of my own.
You can see my listing by clicking on the link just below our Hill Manager, Dennis Evinrude's picture lower right of the front page. If you want to list an item for sale or wanted, related to our winter sport, please use the form link you will see there.
Of course, we want to maintain the integrity of this member benefit so will preview your listing before having it shown on our website. If we have questions, we will contact you before doing so.
