Greetings GADA Members,
Mark your Calendars! Ideas are mounting in order to create the finest selection of speakers, classes, workshops, and award ceremonies for our GADA Spring Conference in Savannah on March 24 - 27, 2012. The NIAAA website is now offering all required LTI courses online as a webinar for CAA certification. Providing one's personal data form meets the CAA standard. An athletic administrator could take the CAA exam at the conference for complete certification. The GADA Hall of Fame inductees will also be announced at that time. A complete conference schedule can be found on www.gadaonline.net at the end of November. The national NIAAA conference is located in Indianapolis on December 9-13, 2011. Those interested in attending need to register online at www.niaaa.org. Bob Stinchcomb, CMAA Athletic Director Darlington School Rome, Georgia

A Quick Comparison to show the different responsibilities and different liabilities of a middle school athletic director's job.
Note, this is only to show how the middle school athletic director's job has evolved into a very difficult and time-consuming job. It is not intended to take anything away from the job of the high school athletic director.
Supervision: The middle school athletic director must wait on rides for the players/students.
Heat: More responsibility as practices must be after school
Scheduling: More responsibility falls on AD to do all of the scheduling.
First Aid: Middle school ADs have fewer trainers and less coach training

Response sought in NIAAA Questionaire |
We encourage your participation in a national study of high school athletic programs. The research is the first of its kind to be accomplished on a national base, and we are confident that the data will prove very beneficial to school athletic administrators, principals, superintendents, as well as school boards and local communities.
In order to gain full and accurate information, representation from each state is imperative. Please take time to provide the necessary information from your school or district. Should you have any questions regarding the survey, please contact Mike Blackburn, 317.587.1450.
Thank you in advance for your efforts on behalf of educational athletic programs!

Reclassification To Hurt Some Schools Financially
From the Times-Georgian.com |
Georgia high school athletics will move from a five-class system that has been in place since 2000 when GHSA moved from a four-class system.
Mt. Zion will remain in Class A, with an enrollment of 295. Gordon Lee is the largest Class A school with an enrollment of 348.
Even though moving to six classes will get some of the larger Class A schools out of contention for Mt. Zion, it takes away two of the biggest rivals in Bremen and Bowdon and leaves the Eagles with plenty of private schools to compete against in the coming years.
"Financially, it's going to hurt us. We lost two of our biggest gates in Bremen and Bowdon with them going up to AA. That's always been a rival for Mt. Zion - not only in football, but in basketball and baseball and the others," Mt. Zion athletic direct, head football and girls basketball coach Bill Bailey said.

Region alignments coming out Tuesday
By Zac Taylor - Gainesville Times |
Local coaches will soon have an idea of which teams they will be competing against for the next two seasons.
On Tuesday in Thomaston the Georgia High School Association will place schools into respective regions for the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 school years.
This follows on the heels of schools being placed into classifications on Nov. 21.

Middle Georgia ADs hoping region rivalries can stay intact after class change
By Jonathan Heeter - Macon.com |
The GHSA reclassification subcommittee breezed through the approval of six classification proposals, setting the stage for the routinely contentious region realignment process.
While no Middle Georgia schools landed in AAAAAA, Houston County, Northside, Warner Robins and Jones County all moved to the second largest classification.
The athletics directors at both Northside and Warner Robins anticipated they would land in AAAAA when asked about reclassification recently.
Many of the Middle Georgia Class AAA schools jumped up to AAAA. Baldwin, Crisp County, Howard, Mary Persons, Perry, Rutland and Veterans all jumped up to join Upson-Lee.
"I think we knew where we were headed," Veterans athletics director Davis Bruce said.
