WHAT'S WRONG WITH PARENTAL WAIVERS?
Wetzel Mediation & Arbitration
by Michael L. Wetzel

Introduction
Parents frequently sign a waiver of liability as a condition for their children to participate in a variety of activities, releasing the sponsor from any legal claim for injuries arising from or related to the activity. In most states, parental waivers are invalid. Even where valid, parental waivers, like available immunities, offer only limited protection.

That is bad news for churches, schools, volunteer organizations, recreational landowners and others who provide or sponsor extra-curricular recreational and educational activities. But there is good news: a solution that is cost-effective, time-saving, and facilitates predictable outcomes for legal disputes. Read more...

Coleman honored for service to Johnson High School
By Rich McGowan (Savannah Morning News)
Roosevelt_coleman In his 31 years as a coach and teacher at Johnson High School, Roosevelt Coleman wanted to give his students and athletes something they'd remember and, hopefully, appreciate.

Judging by the more than 200 friends, colleagues and former students who filled Savannah State's King-Frazier Ballroom for a retirement banquet commemorating his contributions, he did just that.

"I tried to make their experience with me a memorable one that they would remember," Coleman said. "I'd say, 'I want you to remember something that we did in this classroom or on the football field or on the track, and remember it for the rest of your life.'" Read more...

SCOGA Awards By Stephen Black (Score Prep - April 23-29, 2010)

On April 15, Sports Champions of Greater Atlanta honored a dozen local high school athletes for their work in the classroom, the community and on the fields of play. The event was held at the Cobb Galleria Centre and was MC'ed by Bill Hartman. Former Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel spoke at the banquet.

SCOGA was founded by George Wright in 2001 to recognize high school athletes for not only their athletic prowess, but their work in the classroom and community as well. Inaugural Kay Yow Women's Sports Coaches Clinic - POSTPONED

kay-yowUnfortunately we have had to make the decision to postpone the Inaugural Kay Yow Women's Sports Coaches Clinic to a future date.

As of today we only have 12 coaches registered.  We are going to take some time to evaluate and get input from coaches to determine what we need to do to provide an excellent Coaches Clinic that will be well attended by coaches throughout Atlanta.  Thank you for all of your support in this endeavor.  We appreciate each of you.

 God bless.
