Checklists help us stay organized
As Athletic Directors, there are so many events that happen throughout each month that, sometimes, it is beneficial to have a checklist. As spring sports gather steam in their seasons, your time, or lack thereof, is magnified tenfold.

Here, you will find the beginnings of a checklist which will help guide you through each month. I say "the beginnings" because I know that you will take it and add your professional responsibilities to it that are particular to your school or school system.

Working from a checklist can sometimes be the best reminder you have. The worst thing you can do is to not do something you were supposed to do.
  1. Athletic Director Checklist/Reminders for March
  2. Insure that all invoices/bills are paid from winter sports
  3. Attend region meeting
  4. Have completed all spring sports eligibility
  5. Preparation for parent night meeting (site, notification, handouts, a/v equipment, refreshments, etc.)
  6. Attend weekly administrative meeting
  7. Complete game event administrator schedule
  8. Attend faculty meetings and prepare sport-specific announcements
  9. Spring sports picture schedule
  10. Update school athletics website
  11. Schedule, make agenda for monthly athletic department meeting
  12. Confirm all spring sports schedules with school calendar, check for conflicts
  13. Confirm game event personnel (ticket takers, event manager, administrator on duty, security, officials, scorekeeper, etc.)
  14. Complete winter sports equipment inventory
  15. Prepare winter sports equipment order
  16. Attend/advise booster club(s) on business matters
  17. Confirm spring sports scheduling (at least two weeks in advance of contest)
  18. Confirm schedule for team transportation
This should give you a start in your preparation for the month of March. Please send us your check suggestions!

Good luck!

Decatur's Wilson continues to guide historic high school to new heights
By Alex Ewalt - Score Atlanta Prep February 12, 2010
Carter_Prep_pic Carter Wilson knows Decatur High School better than just about anyone. The longtime coach and athletic director at one of Georgia's oldest schools, Wilson looks at his role at Class 2A Decatur as much more than just a job.

"For me, this is home," Wilson says. "I grew up here in Decatur and went to Decatur High School."
Home, as it turns out, has been undergoing some drastic changes as of late. Decatur is a school that is closely tied into its surrounding community, blending in seamlessly with the small-city atmosphere. But several years ago, in looking at the athletic facilities that had been on campus for many decades, it was clear the school district had to move into the new millennium. Read more...

NIAAA Webinar Leadership Training Courses Via the Internet
We are pleased to announce that the NIAAA will be webinar teaching LTC 501, 502, 504 via the internet in the spring of 2010.   The athletic administrator will be able to view the course from the convenience of their home or office.  Administrators will also have the opportunity to pose live questions and the class can be divided into discussion groups with the capability of receiving reports from each groups.  What better way to take a class?  There will be no travel time and no travel costs (gas, meals or lodging).

Our suggestion would be to use the computer that is connected to the greatest bandwidth (DSL, Cable or T-1 line) which could be at your school if you do not have high speed internet connection at home.  However you can get the broadcast with a 56K / dial up modem typically used with home computers.  The only issue here is that this type of internet connection will be slower since pictures/PowerPoint take longer to download.

Equipment Needed
Personal Computer with sound card, speakers and a microphone (Inexpensive $10 microphone will work fine which can be purchased at any computer store)

Course Dates   (Spring-2010)
501  Mondays      April 5 and 12
502  Wednesdays April 7 and 14
504  Thursdays    April 8 and 15

Course Times
The Courses will be taught by experienced faculty.  Each class will be a 150 minute session, taught on two consecutive Monday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings.

7:30 pm to 9:30 pm Eastern      4:30 pm to 6:30 pm Pacific
6:30 pm to 8:30 pm Central       2:30 pm to 4:30 pm Alaska Time
5:30 pm to 7:30 pm Mountain    1:30 pm to 3:30 pm Hawaii Time

Registration
The NIAAA has established a fee of $100 for each webinar course.  Download the enrollment form from the NIAAA website www.niaaa.org and use your credit card or pay by check returning the form with payment to the NIAAA, 9100 Keystone Crossing, Suite 650, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240.  When using a credit card you can fax the enrollment form to 317-587-1451.

Registration deadline
Deadline for all classes will be March 12, 2010 .  Course manuals will be sent to you prior to the first class.

Certificates and Missed Classes
Certificates will be mailed to those that complete the entire course.  You must be able to participate in both sessions in order to receive credit for completing the course and receive a certificate of completion. There will be no opportunity to make up a missed class session.

For additional information contact the NIAAA office at 317-587-1450 or pconrad@niaaa.org

We value your comments and feedback. We encourage you to submit articles and items of interest for the newsletter and the new website.
