Debbie's Dialogue

You just have to meet this year's pig candidates!!
We have assembled quite a team of folks willing to put themselves out there (and I do mean "out there!") to help YouthZone achieve its biggest goal ever: $200,000!

Click here to meet our pig-crazy teams, including two 14 year-olds, three high schoolers, some radio personalities, a banker, a nurse, and one wacky team of realtors! Click "candidates" and then be sure to watch the short videos that really let you get to know these crazy and oh-so-kind people. We appreciate them so much!

Then, as they say in Chicago, "Vote early, vote often!"

We've gone a little hog wild here at YouthZone. The Kiss 'N Squeal Fundraiser is in full swing with piggy-kissing shenanigans and money-raising madness. Read all about the swine fever that's sweeping our local towns and putting the "fun" in "fundraising."

Part of the fun is our online auction. Keep reading for how to win great deals and fun buys.

Thanks to all who voted for our own Charla Belinski on the Oprah Winfrey Network! Just one little snafu: she was disqualified because she's an elected official! Who knew local school boards wielded such power and influence? Well...actually, we all do. But, stay tuned for more opportunities to see and hear YouthZone talk about the importance of parenting.

And thanks to the Glenwood Springs Post-Independent for naming YouthZone the 2010 Local's Choice Best Non-Profit! Thank you to our wonderful Glenwood Springs community for your support and recognition!

Also in this issue, you'll meet our newest staff members, get to know our Kiss n' Squeal candidates, and more. Thanks for reading!

20 Years and Still Squealin'
Annual Kiss n' Squeal Fundraiser

Kiss n Squeal Kick off party
Well, they're off to the races! After a huge and successful kickoff at the Glenwood Caverns  earlier this month, our teams of PIG candidates are hard at work, pounding the pavement to raise funds for YouthZone. The lucky winner who rounds up the most votes earns the right to pucker up to a pig.

Pig paraphernalia is all over the Roaring Fork Valley and the West End of Garfield County. Look for signs of swine and give! Last year YouthZone raised over $100,000. In this, our 20th anniversary of kissing pigs, we are shooting for $200,000. And we can't do it without you! So, please, support your favorite candidate, give what you can, and help us spread the swine fever!

3 Ways help YZ Reach Its Goal

Here are three easy ways to be part of the Piggy fun this summer:

1.) Support your favorite fundraising team by donating online.

2.) Buy a raffle ticket with a chance to win $1000 cash. Contact YouthZone to find out how.

3.) Go shopping at the online auction. Bid on items like a week of luxury accommodations on the Island of Roatan in Honduras (see feature at left) and a deluxe condominium in Maui. You'll also find a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with Aspen Paragliding, not to mention overnight stays at Hotel Colorado, Aspen Ski Area lift tickets, world class massages, and one really phat cruiser bike. We've got Avs and Rockies tickets, hotel stays, restaurants, hand crafted items, and more rounds of golf than you can handle. Online registration is quick and secure; if you have questions please call our office!

These are just a few of the ways you can support Kiss n' Squeal. For more, visit www.youthzone.com

Your YouthZone

Here's what some of you are saying about the services YouthZone provides to our communities:

"YouthZone does an excellent job of reminding kids that you really can get a second chance, and that you can correct your mistakes in a positive manner. It gives them an opportunity to realize their potential."
--Mike Sirko, head coach, Aspen High School Football

New Members of the YZ Team
We are happy to announce the addition of two new staff members to the YZ team:

Charles Richardson joins YouthZone as Coordinator for the Pals Mentoring Program in Carbondale. Charles has his BA and is bilingual thanks to time spent living and studying in Spain. He loves to rock climb and spend time outdoors and has a heart for kids! Charles lives in Glenwood Springs where his fiancee and three young kids keep him busy!

Leanne Worton is the new Pals Coordinator in Rifle and it's a place she knows well; she was born and raised there! After a stint in South Carolina she has recently moved back to New Castle with her husband and 15-month-old son. Leanne has a strong business background and is currently working toward her degree in child and family studies.

Welcome Charles and Leanne!

Congratulations to YZ's Sarah Woods Kelly
Sarah and her husband, Ben, are celebrating their first-born, a baby boy born June 13! Finn Kelly joins the baby boom here at YouthZone. Congratulations, Sarah and Ben.
