OKACAA Presents Awards


  The Oklahoma Association of Community Action Agencies honored volunteers and staff members during its annual conference.
   Delta Community Action Foundation Board Chairman Darrell Ford was presented the Fred Tucker Leadership Award.
   KI BOIS Community Action Foundation Housing Director John Jones was awarded the Guy Davis Leadership Award
   Washita Valley Community Action Council Weatherization Director Randy Brasee received the Ted Allen Memorial Award.
   The Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Jan Coplen from KI BOIS Community Action Foundation.
   The Friends of Head Start Award was given to Milton & Debbie Huebsch.

   Big Five Community Services Administers Program to Provide Jobs Training


  Big Five Community Services is helping southern Oklahoma residents obtain training to upgrade their job skills with funding from the federal Workforce Investment Act program.

Hosts Virtual Job Fair

  Residents in northeastern Oklahoma were able to research companies and apply for jobs over the Internet through a Virtual Job Fair sponsored by Community Action Resource & Development.

  High school dropouts are able to earn their GED while learning construction skills through Little Dixie Community Action Agency's YouthBuild program.

OWHAC to Award Scholarship

  A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded by the Oklahoma Weatherization and Housing Advisory Council. Deadline for submission of an application is Jan. 13, 2012.

Head Start Centers of Excellence Announced

  The Administration for Children and Families' Office of Head Start has named Little Dixie Community Action Agency's Head Start program as a national Center of Excellence in Early Childhood.

   The purpose of the Centers of Excellence is to recognize Head Start and Early Head Start programs that are performing at the highest levels of quality and that can serve as models for other programs.
   The Community Action Project of Tulsa County was also named a Center of Excellence.
   The two Oklahoma programs were among only 20 nationwide to receive the designation.
  

Resources Available to Help CAAs Promote

Economic Security for Families

 The ASSET Initiative is a resource for CAAs assisting clients who are living paycheck-to-paycheck.  They can learn about sound family budgeting and money management practices from these online resources.
