Tito Puente, Jr., presented Olga Guillot with a special award named in honor of his father, the DocMiami, "El Rey" Tito Puente Contribution to the Arts Award. May 31st marked the passing of "El Rey" Tito Puente, and in honor and remembrance of his extraordinary life,  the City of Doral presented his son with an official proclaimation declaring May 31st "El Rey" Tito Puente Day within the City of Doral. This honor was especially significant during our Memorial Day Weekend event, as it was presented to Tito Puente, Jr., by Vietnam Verteran and Vice Mayor of the City of Doral, Robert Van Name. "El Rey" Tito Puente was not only a world renowned Latin Jazz and Mambo performer but also a World War II Verteran having  served in the Navy for three years during World War II, and being discharged with a Presidential Commendation for serving in nine battles. The GI Bill allowed him to study music at Juilliard School of Music, where he completed a formal education in conducting, orchestration and theory.
