Award and Poster Unveiling, Romano's Macaroni Grill, Doral, Florida
The Official DocMiami Poster/Award unveiling took place on Thursday, January 28, 2010, at Romano's Macaroni Grill in Doral. Special guests included, City of Doral, Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez and the organizer's Chairperson of the Board Dr. Toni Bilbao, Chairperson of the Doral Cultural Affairs Advisory Board as the official 2010 DocMiami poster was unveiled created by local artist Kristopher Del Angel, as well as the DocMiami "NGL" lifetime achievement award, created by sculptor Laura Tobi Carcano, and named in honor of Cuban Documentary filmmaker, Nicolas Guillén Landrián (NGL), whose two children, Elvira Valdes and Nicolas Guillén were present.

The event includes three days of cutting edge documentary filmmakers' showings and three nights of outstanding music concerts as a celebration of documentary filmmaking at a global level nestled in sunny South Florida. The festival brings together emerging documentary filmmakers, students, and film and music enthusiasts in a truly bohemian, one-of-a-kind event. Funds raised during the three evening concerts will benefit the non- profit organization Brick by Brick for Tanzania, Inc. dedicated to building schools in the African nation challenged by unrest, drought and HIV. The official host of the event is Tito Puente, Jr. who will be joined by Music Concert Director, Ivan Van Hernandez of Radio Caracol who will welcome Melton Mustafa, of the 14th Annual Melton Mustafa Jazz Festival, Fito Espinola, the band Less Than Treason, Ivan Band and more who will be performing! Lance Miccio, Director of Rock n'Roll Made in Mexico produced by Fito de la Parra, will be present for a special networking meet-and-greet event for documentary filmmakers at DocMiami.

| Dr. Toni Bilbao, Chairwoman - Doral Cultural Affairs Advisory Board
Bringing the World of Film to Doral, Florida
Born in Havana, Cuba, Maria A. "Toni" Bilbao moved to Miami with her parents and sister in 1960. After attending public school in Miami she attended Miami Dade College, the University of Miami and Florida International University culminating her higher education in a doctorate degree. She has worked for Miami Dade Public Schools as a teacher, school administrator and a reading consultant. Coming to Florida International University in 1989 she took a position in Development and eventually served as an Associate Vice President in that office. As her love is education, she took a position in the College of Education as Associate Dean of Student Services and maintained that position until 2003 when she took a position at Miami Dade College as Associate Provost of Student Services. In 2006 Toni had the privilege of opening the newest campus of Miami Dade College, West Campus in Doral, as the Executive Director of the West Campus. Toni is very much involved in the community as well. Toni serves as Chairwoman of the Doral Cultural Affairs Committee and as a Board Member of the Doral Business Council. Most recently Toni was instrumental in garnering a $250,000 endowment from the City of Doral for student scholarships. As Chairwoman she has now supported the DocMiami International Film Festival and has been instrumental in making this City of Doral cultural experience a reality. |
