A Message From Our Head of School

Dear Parents,

This morning our seniors left for Canada. Their three-day trip to Stratford, Ontario has been an annual trip. As a follow-up to the study of Shakespeare, the focus of the trip is to attend the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, which is an internationally recognized annual celebration of theatre running from April to November. Theatre-goers, actors, and playwrights flock to Stratford to take part - many of the greatest Canadian, British, and American actors play roles at the Stratford festival. It was one of the first and is still one of the most prominent arts festivals in Canada and is recognized worldwide for its productions of Shakespearean plays.

We are fortunate that we can offer a variety of extended field trips to our students. Next week our fifth grade students will spend two days at Red Oak Camp. An annual trip to Williamsburg for our seventh graders and Washington D.C. for our eighth graders takes place in the spring, as well as an overnight trip to Pittsburgh for our sixth grade students. We are exploring the possibility of including a trip to Chicago for our sophomore class and a trip to Boston for our juniors. All of these trips are extensions of the curriculum taught at each of the grade levels mentioned.

Each year, we also offer to our Upper School students a spring break trip. Last year's trip included Italy, France, U.K. and Monte Carlo. This spring we will offer two trips. One will be a ski trip in either Colorado or Utah; the second, an international trip to either Costa Rica or the Dominican Republic. Both trips will also have a service project included. The cost of either of the spring break trips will be approximately $2200.

Have a great weekend and week ahead.

Chuck Roman

Submissions for the Phoenix News

The first monthly issue of the 2012-2013 Phoenix News will be distributed on Friday, September 28th.  Since this newsletter is intended to be a monthly recap of student, faculty and staff accomplishments and events, everyone in the AOA community is encouraged to submit suggested articles and/or photos.

Please send your article/photo entries to Ellen Beers at ebeers@andrewsosborne.org.  Since the newsletter is published at the end of each month, entries should be sent one week prior to to the publication date. Since the September edition is quickly approaching, please submit entries by next Monday.  Reminders will be emailed in the future a week prior to the entry deadline.

We also have a "Cover Shot" photo contest, where each month we review photos entered by students, faculty, staff, and parent submissions. The winner receives a gift certificate to the AOA Campus Shop to purchase spirit wear. Please send your cover photo submissions the Friday prior to publication to Michelle Rowley at mrowley@andrewsosborne.org and to Ellen Beers at ebeers@andrewsosborne.org

Below is an example of a previous cover.
