CCIS College Fair for Juniors

Parents and Members of the Classes of 2013,

The college counselors of several Cleveland Independent Schools invite you to attend the annual College Fair that will be held on Monday, April 23rd at Hawken School's Upper Campus.

This year's program will include a college application case study session. The Admission Case Study program will offer students and parents an opportunity to see what actually happens to an application in the admission committee process. At the program, students and parents will be given four student applications to evaluate as a part of a mock admission committee. A college admission officer who has been specifically invited to present at this program will lead the discussion of the applicants. At the end of the discussion, each group (students and parents will be in separate rooms) will vote to admit, waitlist, and deny the applicants just like a real admission committee.

The Case Study program will take place prior to the college fair from 5:30-6:45 p.m. Due to space limitations, we must limit the attendance to the student and one parent for the case study portion. Everyone is welcome for the college fair. Check in will be in Ireland Hall in Hawken's main academic building. Please arrive by 5:15 p.m. on April 23rd so that you have plenty of time to park and be directed to a discussion room. The program will start promptly at 5:30 p.m.

After the Case Study program, students and parents will be able to speak to college admission representatives and obtain college-related materials in the Hawken Gym during the college fair. Approximately 110 colleges and universities from all over the United States and Canada will be there to answer your questions. The doors to the fair will open at 7:00 p.m. and the fair will end at 8:30 p.m.

During the course of the evening, we will be offering several information sessions concurrent with the Fair that we hope will be of interest. In order to facilitate your planning for the evening, the schedule of these sessions will be:

7:15-7:45 p.m.        Financial Aid - David Miller, College of Wooster

7:45-8:15 p.m.        Athletics in the College Process - William Roth, Oberlin College

This evening provides a wonderful opportunity for both parents and students to broaden their understanding of the college selection process. Transportation for all Juniors will be provided from AOA. The bus leaves campus at 4:30 p.m. and will return at 8:30 p.m.

We all look forward to seeing you on Monday evening, April 23rd.  If you have questions, please contact AOA's College Counselor, Catherine Sylstra, at csylstra@andrewsosborne.org or at 440-942-3600 ext. 234.

Labels for Education UPC's

In February, a Campbell's collection sheet went home with the Lower School students. If you were able to complete a sheet or find some of the requested UPC's, please turn them in to Kathy Marvar in the Lower School office by May 15th. We are looking for the following UPCs: Post cereals, Pop Secret, Glad products, and news-stand issues of Real Simple, Time, and All You magazines.

If you are not a Lower School parent, but have some of the mentioned UPC's, you can turn them into Sharan McPadden or Jane Piszczor. We can combine what we get to fill-in collection sheets. Thank you for your help!

Any questions please contact Jane Piszczor at jpiszczor@andrewsosborne.org or ext. 117.
