A Message From Our Head of School

Dear Parents,

Today we celebrated National Mustache Day at AOA. As a class fundraiser, the freshman class came up with the idea of selling a mustache for students to wear today for $1.00. Quite a number of students, faculty and staff participated, including yours truly. The freshman class had a number of thoughts about their fundraiser, including duct taping me to a wall! I liked the idea of wearing a mustache much better. At our morning assembly, I shared with students that I have had water balloons and pies thrown at me; dunked in a dunk tank; and even rode a donkey in a donkey basketball game, all in the name of fun.

On a more important note, the first of two Preview Nights takes place for Lower School families next Tuesday, February 7th, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. With the Strategic Plan being finalized, I want to take a few minutes to share the plan with you as well as share an exciting partnership we are engaging in with a nationally recognized organization. The Preview Night for Middle and Upper School parents takes place on Tuesday, February 21st, also beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Preview Nights are opportunities for you to learn more about next year's programs, especially for those parents of students transitioning to Middle and Upper School.  A flyer regarding these nights is also available by clicking HERE.

Prior to this meeting, the AOA Parents Association will hold their meeting, beginning at 6:30 p.m.  All parents are welcome to attend this meeting.

Have a great weekend and week ahead.

Chuck Roman

Cinderella Ball Recap

By Jennifer Veselko, Event Chair

Thank you to everyone that attended the 2012 Cinderella Ball, we had a magnificent turnout of 131 attendees this year at the new Manakiki Country Club location.  I certainly hope a good time was had by all and please note that your 5 x 7 photos will be delivered to school in the next 7-10 days and circulated directly to your classrooms.

As Chairperson of the Cinderella Ball this year, I would like to thank the Co-Chair, Denise Mooney, who really helped rally the Middle School students this year!  Additionally, I would like to thank Sharon Graper and Michelle Rowley and her staff for all of their guidance and assistance throughout the planning process.

Finally, I would likely to sincerely acknowledge our photographer Kathy Allyn, and her newly launched L.A. Party Pix photo booth for corporate and private events.  She donated the photo booth for our enjoyment for the Ball this year as an added feature!

Please enjoy reviewing the photos and purchase additional copies of any of the photos easily online.  These will only be available to view for a short time--so please order soon!

If there is no snow, the rescheduled date will be Saturday, March 3rd. Watch your email or contact Amy Myers at amystarrmyers@gmail.com with any questions.

(Respecters of All Diversities), will host their annual Down Home Dinner on Saturday, March 3rd, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m before the Upper School play - One Acts.  The cost of admission is $10 for adults and $7 for children 10 and under.  Admission is cash only and we ask that you please pay when you arrive in the dining room.

This dinner features many dishes often categorized under the Soul Food heading; homemade macaroni and cheese, fried chicken, catfish, ribs, greens, cornbread, sweet potato pie and much more.  Food service begins at 5:00 p.m. and will continue until 7:00 p.m., but attendees should plan to arrive by 6:30 p.m.

This year, we would like to thank the Tompkins family for helping put on the dinner.  If other members of the AOA community would like to lend a hand preparing the food, please contact Mr. DiBianca at gdibianca@andrewsosborne.org.  H

We look forward to sharing this experience with the AOA community.  All proceeds from the dinner will go towards future diversity projects sponsored by R.O.A.D., which strives to study and oppose prejudice against people of all diversities and to promote matters of equity and justice both inside and outside our school community.
