A Message From Our Head of School

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year to our students and families from Korea and China! Monday, January 23th, is the day that Korea and China celebrate New Year's Day. The Chinese New Year celebration is also known as "Spring Festival". Similar to our Winter Break, the Chinese New Year celebration lasts for fifteen days and is the most important of all holidays in China. The Korean New Year is also the most important holiday in Korea and is usually celebrated over a three-day period. Families in both China and Korea use this time to get together and celebrate their annual traditions. The date for New Year's Day in China and Korea changes each year and falls on day of the second new moon after the winter solstice.

On Monday, we will be celebrating the Chinese and Korean New Year during our afternoon schedule.  The International Club has planned a number of activities to introduce students at all grade levels to customs and traditions of the Chinese and Korean culture. The color red is the color of prosperity and joy in both China and Korea. Front doors are often decorated in red during the New Year celebration. We have asked all students to wear red to celebrate the Chinese and Korean New Year on Monday.

Don't forget about "Pack the House" on Tuesday. See the article below for the schedule. All of our basketball teams are playing well, but our boys varsity team is doing great with a record of 7-1. Come out and support our teams and have fun. If you can't attend all of the games, we hope you will be able to see one of the teams play.

Have a great weekend and week ahead.

Chuck Roman

Students in the Upper School continue to challenge themselves by participating in the Ohio Math League Contests. This is a series of 6 contests taken throughout the school year. Any Upper School student is welcome to participate. The next contest is February 14th during Advisory Period in Lisa Richardson's room.

Any questions, please contact Lisa Richardson, head of the mathematics department, at ext. 321 or at lrichardson@andrewsosborne.org.
