A Message From Our Head of School

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year! It's great to be back in school and I hope everyone enjoyed having the time off for Winter Break. If you take time to look at the calendar for the remainder of the school year, you will find that the second semester will go just as fast as the first half of the year. There are numerous activities and events that will be taking place including a number of athletic events not listed on the calendar, but these can be found in the weekly newsletter. One such event, which has become popular, is our annual "Pack The House" basketball event on Tuesday, January 24, featuring our girl's varsity and boy's junior varsity and varsity teams. The first game begins at 4:00 p.m.

Planning Ahead for 2012
Information regarding re-enrollment for the 2012-2013 school year will be mailed home to our day and domestic boarding families and emailed to our international boarding families in the next couple of weeks. Andrews Osborne Academy has available a number of scholarships that are awarded to students each year. The scholarships and applications can be found on the website using the following link: www.andrewsosborne.org/FA.php.

We are currently in the process of planning the calendar for the next academic school year. Many have asked me about the start date for school next year. I announced at our Ice Cream Social event in September that I believe students should continue to enjoy the summer time off through the month of August. Even though September 1, 2012, falls on a Saturday, school will not begin until the following week. Monday, September 3, is Labor Day. The Ice Cream Social will be held on Tuesday, September 4, and the first day of school for the 2012-2103 school year will be on Thursday, September 6. The calendar for the 2012-2013 school year can be found on the school's website beginning next week.

As we have done in the past, two Preview Nights are planned in February. These nights are planned to give parents information about the grade levels students will move up to next year. The first Preview Night is scheduled for Tuesday, February 7 for Lower School parents with students moving up through grade 5 and Tuesday, February 21 for Middle and Upper School parents moving up to grades 6-12. Both programs will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Then parents will have the opportunity to visit the classrooms and meet with teachers. Childcare will be provided. Watch for a flyer in the next couple of weeks with additional information.

Have a great weekend and week ahead and best wishes in 2012,

Chuck Roman
