A Message From Our Head of School

Dear Parents,

Yesterday was a great day.  Field Day was fun for everyone and not just for our students.  They, however, would like Field Day every day, as I was told by a number of students.  I did try to break the long jump record, but I was told that Mrs. Huck broke my record. Thanks to all of our parents who volunteered to help with the lower school games.  We could not have done it without you.  Thanks also to all of our parents and relatives that attended the picnic.  It was great to see all of you and taking the time out of your busy schedules to have lunch with your children.  Special thanks to our Physical Education teachers, Darcy Hegreness and Maggie Lash for organizing the day.  The weather could not have been more perfect.

Upper School Awards

This morning we held our annual Upper School Awards program.  Congratulations to all of our Upper School students on your accomplishments and achievements.  A total of 84 awards were given to our students ranging from service awards, equestrian awards, sports awards, departmental awards, National Honor Society recognition and the presentation of a number of scholarships.  Mrs. Richardson (Math) received an award from her peers and Mr. Doringo (History) received an award from the Student Council.  The Middle School Awards program will be held next Friday morning, June 10th.

Senior Farewell and Commencement

I know I took time to mention Senior Farewell and Commencement a couple of weeks ago, but I just wanted to remind everyone planning to attend these events that Senior Farewell begins this evening at 8:00 p.m. and Commencement begins tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.  You do not need to be a parent of a senior to attend.  All of our parents are invited.

CONGRATULATIONS CLASS OF 2011!!!!

Have a great weekend and week ahead.

Chuck Roman

May Student of the Month

Joey Jones has been named the Upper School May Student of the Month and was honored at a Willoughby Rotary Club luncheon.

He has been an honor student at AOA for the past 3 years, and he received the Spanish award last year.  Last summer, Joey participated in a foreign exchange program to the Central Coast in New South Wales, Australia.  He also went to Guatemala for a community service project to help Hispanic children learn to speak English during his two-week spring break.  For this trip, Joey ran a book drive and collected 150 books for the Lemonade School in Guatemala City.

Joey is very active in sports and has received 10 varsity letters in various sports such as soccer and swimming.  He received the AOA Athlete of the Year award 2 years ago.  He also received a varsity letter in wrestling his freshman year at Wickliffe.  Next year Joey plans to attend Roanoke College to study Athletic Training and Spanish.
