A Message From Our Head of School

Dear Parents,

Two weeks from tomorrow (June 4th), our senior class of 33 students will be graduating at 2:00 p.m.  Sarah Sinclair, Executive Chief Nursing Officer of the Cleveland Clinic Health System, is the commencement speaker.  We are very fortunate to have her join us on this special day.  It is hard to believe that the class of 2011 is the fourth class to graduate from Andrews Osborne Academy.  Next year's senior class will be the largest class to graduate so far from Andrews Osborne Academy.  A very important tradition that remains for seniors, since the merger, is Senior Farewell.  Senior Farewell takes place the evening before commencement.  It is a beautiful evening of music sung by our junior and senior classes.  The program begins at 8:00 p.m.

First Grade Program

This morning I attended the first grade program. The Passport To World Cultures program was a celebration of learning about different countries throughout the world.  All twenty-two first grade students studied a country and made a presentation on that country during the program.  The program also featured displays made by students and lunch representing traditional foods found from the countries studied.  Hats off to our students for such an excellent program and presentations.

Air-Conditioning

The Lower School building is now air-conditioned, thanks to the AOA Parents Association and funding received from another grant.  Now all we need is some warmer weather, with less rain to test it out.  The renovations to the science labs in the Lee Building also made it possible for the Lee Building to be fully air-conditioned.

Focus Groups

Fifty-four parents, representing all grade levels, participated in the focus group sessions that took place two weeks ago.  The purpose of the focus groups was to hear what our parents have to say in regards to the overall program.  The information gathered at these sessions will be shared once it is reviewed by a strategic planning committee.  We are in the process of establishing a strategic plan, which should be completed by this fall.  Thank you to all of our parents who participated in the focus group sessions.

Three Weeks

Three weeks, but I'm not counting.  For seniors it's only two, but for all other students only three weeks of school remain.  During this time, we have Field Day, finals, Senior Project presentations, Spring Sports Awards, Senior Social, Prom, EC Memories, Williamsburg Trip presentations, Upper and Middle School awards, Senior Farewell and Commencement.  I'm not counting, because those of us who work during the summer really do miss having the students around.  As you can see, it's a busy three weeks and this year has been full of opportunities for our students to learn and enjoy.

Have a great weekend and week ahead.

Chuck Roman

1st Grade Passport to World Cultures Program

Today the 1st grade celebrated the world at their annual Passport to World Cultures program.  Students studied various countries and then gave a profile of each country they studied.  Food and beverages which represented these countries were served.  Thank you to the parents and faculty who provided these international goodies.
