A Message From Our Head of School

 Dear Parents,

Good News!  Due to the length of our school day, we will not have to make up any of the "Snow Days" that we missed.  There was the possibility that we would have to make up one day on Friday, April 22.  We will not have school on this day.

ISACS Visitation

Andrews Osborne Academy is a member of the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS).  We are required to be accredited to operate as an independent school in Ohio.  ISACS is our accrediting body.  We have been preparing for an ISACS Accreditation assessment and will be visited by a 12 member team from April 17-20.  They will spend their time at AOA visiting classrooms, meeting with faculty and staff, students, and with some of our parents.  The late-start Wednesday's were used to prepare for the accreditation.  All faculty and staff, as well as a number of parents and board members participated on 30 committees representing all facets of the school.  Their efforts produced a self-study report or assessment of AOA.  The information gathered will be reviewed by the ISACS team to verify our accreditation as an independent and state sanctioned school.

Parent Focus Groups

On May 9, 10 and 11, a random group of parents representing all grade levels will be participating in focus group sessions to share opinions of the school, specifically the education that your children are receiving and activities in which they are involved.  The focus group sessions will be led by an outside facilitator.  The information gathered from the focus group sessions, along with the self-study completed for the ISACS evaluation, will be used to help identify goals for a Strategic Plan.  If you receive an invitation to attend one of the sessions, we hope that you will attend.  Invitations will be mailed next week.

Enrollment

I am pleased to announce that enrollment for the 2011-2012 is looking very promising.  Contracts that have been received are way ahead of where they were last year, both with current parents and with new students.  I would like to thank our current parents for your continued support of the school.  We also have a number of new students who have applied to Andrews Osborne Academy and we are in the process of reviewing their applications for enrollment.

Seussical

Our middle school students have been working very hard in preparation for their performance of Seussical, a musical based on a number of Dr. Seuss's books.  This very entertaining musical will be performed TONIGHT, beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Tickets are $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children.  Proceeds will benefit Red Cross efforts for the victims of the Japan earthquake.

Have a great weekend and week ahead

Chuck Roman

International Day

Andrews Osborne Academy will host its annual International Day on Friday, April 15th.  From 1:30 to 3:10 p.m., there will be international performances presented to the AOA community and guests.  These performances will showcase many of the traditions, sights, and sounds of our diverse student body and foreign language program.

This year's theme is "Everybody Dance".  It was chosen by AOA's International Club because it embodies their AOA experience - either living in the U.S. or having a student from another country and culture as your best friend.  The club will be presenting a multi-cultural dance extravaganza, ending with a dance that all Middle and Upper School students will learn on International Day.

The Lower School has also been hard at work on their performances for the day.  With the guidance and direction of Ms. Praveena Pewekar, the 4th and 5th grade students will perform "Past & Present Dances" from India and Latin America.  Also, the after-school Multi-Cultural Dance students will present an African dance to Shakira's Waka Waka and one that combines the movements of the Afro-Brazilian Capoeira, Indian Kathak, and French ballet.

In addition to the performances, the Middle and   Upper School students will prepare a luncheon for their peers.  This year there will be more than 25 dishes prepared from around the world.  Although the luncheon is not open to parents, we do hope that parents and guests attend the afternoon performances in the Osborne Building Auditorium.  Plan to arrive around 1:15 to enjoy pictures from the 2011 Upper School spring break trip to Costa Rica
