AOAPA Updates

Dear AOA Parents,

As everyone prepares for Spring Break I just wanted to update you on a few items and give you a reminder of what lies ahead.

At this time of year the current executive board of the AOAPA decides if it would like to serve another term. The by-laws of the AOAPA state that an officer is elected for a 1 year term but each officer may elect to serve a second term without an election. I am happy to report that the entire current board has agreed to stay on for a second term. That being the case there will be no elections this year but all positions will be up for election the following year.

Have a great time off no matter what you do. June is just around the corner.

All the best,

Sharon Graper

AOAPA President

The Phoenix Luncheon - "Inner Beauty"

On February 26th, over 150 ladies of all ages gathered at the Pine Ridge Country Club to support Andrews Osborne Academy and Wigs for Kids. There were over 65 fabulous baskets, 13 silent auction items and a raffle for a Spa Weekend in Chicago which was generously donated by Ladies and Gentlemen Salon and Spa. There was music, food and shopping. Jeffery Paul, the founder of Wigs for Kids, was the keynote speaker.  His inspirational talk about his goal to make woman of all ages find their "inner beauty" was very moving.

The event raised over $14,000. A portion of the proceeds was donated to Wigs for Kids.  The rest of the money raised will be used to support educational programs, equipment and activities within the school. A special thank you to the committee who made it all happen: Tara Tabernik, Kim Mazzone, Lori Schneider and Stephanie Maley.

Summer Scholarships

For the past two years, the AOAPA offered returning students in 5th through 12th grade the opportunity to apply for a scholarship for a summer program that would enhance the student's academic career or personal life.

One of the goals for the AOAPA this year is to live within our sources of income and not rely on reserves from past fund raisers. Until this goal is achieved we feel it is responsible to cut back on the programs that are servicing the least amount of students. To that end we will not be offering summer scholarships this year.  We may reinstitute the program in future years as more funds become available.

Pizza Week April 10-16

After Spring Break, we will be having a very painless fundraiser with J's Pizza Market, located in Mentor near the Yours Truly restaurant on Route 615 between Mentor Avenue and Route 2.  For every pizza bought during the week of April 10-16, AOA will get 20% of the profits.  We will have flyers that you can use and give to your friends.

You can get wheat or white crust, fresh veggies or all the meat and cheese you can eat. They will bake it for you or wrap it and you can bake it when you get home.

So think pizza for dinner; pizza for lunch at work; pizza parties at sports events.  The more pizza you eat, the more money we make!
