A Message From Our Head of School

Dear Parents,

As you may or may not be aware, we are in the process of upgrading our science labs in the Upper School.  Along with the science lab upgrades, we also had steps constructed leading to the Chagrin River.

No one is more excited to have the steps leading to the Chagrin River than Mr. Altman, Lower and Middle School Science Teacher and Mrs. Walunis, Environmental Science Teacher for the Upper School.  The steps leading to the river will make it possible for our students to study aquatic life as well as plant life along the Chagrin River Valley.  Through a gift from the Thomas Mastin Foundation, we were able to have the steps constructed as well as the improvements in the science labs.  Graper and Warmington constructed the steps leading to the river, which was no small task.  You are welcome to take your child down to the river via the steps.  We do not permit any of our students to use this access unless they accompanied by an adult or faculty member.  This includes our boarding students.  The steps are located to the left of the Dorm Circle and to the left of House "5", one of our dormitories.

We are looking forward to the winter sports season.  We hope that you will attend our girls or boys basketball games at the Middle and Upper School levels as well our swim meets.

Each year News Channel 5 sponsors the Academic Challenge competition.  For the first time, Andrews Osborne Academy will have its first team compete.  The team, comprised of Sarah LeBarron, Kate Kuczynski, Daniel Jang, Noah Lipton and Beth Schulz, will compete in February against two other schools live on Channel 5.

Next Friday and Saturday the talents of our students will be on display again as they will be performing in the wonderful musical Thoroughly Modern Millie.  Both evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m., with a Saturday matinee at 2:00 p.m.  Tickets are available at the door.

We were very fortunate to have wonderful weather this past week.  We hope that it continues, but we also know that the snow will be falling soon.  As a reminder, if school is ever cancelled due to poor weather conditions, please check the major TV stations and radio stations.

Have a great weekend and week ahead.

Chuck Roman

Fall Musical

Thoroughly Modern Millie

The Performing Arts Department of Andrews Osborne Academy invites you to attend the 2010 fall musical, "Thoroughly Modern Millie", on Friday, November 19th and Saturday, November 20th.
The show begins at 7:30 each night, with a Saturday matinee at 2:00 p.m.

Tickets are available at the door; $3.00 for students and seniors, $5.00 for adults.  Tickets are available one hour before each show.  The doors will open 30 minutes before the beginning of the show.

This Tony Award winning musical tells the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has recently moved to Manhattan to fulfill her "modern" dream of marrying for money instead of love. It is New York in the 1920's, full of intrigue and jazz, frisky flappers, dashing leading men, and a dragon-lady of a villainess everyone will love to hate. Full of madcap merriment, this high-spirited musical will have everyone dancing the Charleston. Based on the popular movie, the stage version of "Thoroughly Modern Millie" includes a full score of great songs and bright dance numbers.

The production features the talents of Samantha Jackson ('13) in the leading role of the irrepressible, Millie Dillmount. New to the stage, Christopher Casey ('11) performs the role of Jimmy Smith, a carefree bachelor who falls under Millie's spell.  Emily Zart ('13) plays the role of the genteel heiress, Miss Dorothy, and Doug Lee ('12) will have you laughing at his antics as the pompous Mr. Trevor Graydon III, president of the "Sincere Trust Insurance Company."   Katie Stiles ('11) plays the role of the mysterious and sinister Mrs. Meers and is assisted by Ching Ho (Xavier Martinez '13) and Bun Foo (Richard Chung '12.) Ching Ho and Bun Foo ultimately save the day and everyone ends up happily ever after. Well, except for Mrs. Meers.

Joined by the considerable talents of over 50 AOA students, both on and off the stage, this is the perfect family show...you won't want to miss it.
