A Message From Our Head of School

Dear Parents,

Don't forget to turn back your clocks this weekend.  It's an extra hour of sleep!!

As you are aware, Rachelle Sundberg, Director of Admissions, and I were in China the past two weeks.  For me, it was my third trip to China.

We visited 7 cities in 14 days.  While in these cities, we had the opportunity to visit with parents of current students and parents interested in sending their children to the United States to be educated.  During the past three years, I have visited at least 15 high schools in China, where the class size average is 50 students.

As seen at other boarding schools across the country, students from China are increasing in numbers in the U.S.  As you can imagine, cities in China have populations of one million or more.  Shanghai has a population of 18 million people!!  By visiting China and Korea, I have learned to appreciate the education we are able to offer to these students as well as students from other countries and our day population.  The trips have been very worthwhile, as they have given us the opportunity to learn about cultures, gain an understanding of education in different countries, and provide students locally with an education that is enriched in learning about other countries through real experiences.

This year, we have students enrolled from 16 different countries and 11 states.  In the future, it is our hope to expand the number of countries represented at Andrews Osborne Academy while placing a major emphasis on increasing the day population.

Next Friday, November 12, is our first Friday Open House for EC through grade 5 and Morning at AOA for students in grades 6-11.  If you are aware of a family interested in Andrews Osborne Academy, please have them contact the Admissions Department at 440-942-3606 or at admissions@andrewsosborne.org.

Have a great weekend and week ahead.

Chuck Roman

Please come to the fair to support the students and see their work.  You will have an opportunity to vote for the best presentation of the evening.  French refreshments and food will also be available.  If you would like additional information, please contact Veronique Berthet, our French teacher, at

Picture Re-Take Day

Picture re-take day will be next Wednesday, November 10th, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.  The pictures will be taken in the Community Room; please have your student bring their old picture packet to turn it in.  This is the last chance for yearbook pictures.

A senior class picture will be taken, and seniors are asked to wear their blue polos or sweaters for a coordinated look.  All other students having their picture re-taken may dress up.

First Quarter Report Cards

Lower School report cards will be mailed next week.

Middle and Upper School report cards were sent to parents electronically today.  At the end of the school year, final hardcopy report cards will be mailed.

If any Middle and Upper School parents did not
receive the electronic report card, please contact
Sharan McPadden, our Registrar, at ext. 244
or at smcpadden@andrewsosborne.org.

Dress Code Clarification

Middle and Upper School girls were reminded this week that uniform skirts should not be more than 2 inches above the knee and that the skirts need to have a proper hem (not cut/stapled/taped).

They are allowed to wear shorts underneath as long as the shorts are shorter than the skirt.  Tights and leggings need to be white or navy blue.

The school dress code can be found on pages 44-46 in the Student/Parent Handbook.  Faculty and staff were reminded to refer dress code violations to Mr. Ahrens, Dean of Students.
