Community Foundation of Greater Grande Prairie
vital signs launch group shot
Greetings!

We had a great turn out for the launch of Grande Prairie's first Vital Signs. Over 120 people joined us for breakfast as we launched the Vital Signs report and announced an exciting new Alberta Health Services initiative to target obesity. A special thanks to the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie for providing and preparing our healthy breakfast.

If you would like a hardcopy of the Vital Signs Report, watch for the insert in today's Daily Herald Tribune. You can also contact our office for additional copies. The Daily Herald Tribune will also be expanding on some of our Vital Signs issues in the coming weeks. We thank them for their support.

Grande Prairie Vital Signs is just one example of the leadership work we do as a Foundation for the community. We know this project will have great benefits for our donors and to maximize the impact of our grants.

The dialogue has started, and action is already taking place. We are excited to see where it goes from here!

With Thanksgiving this weekend, this is the time for each of us to be thankful for our family, friends, colleagues and community. With the launch of the Vital Signs yesterday, this is a good time for each of us to recognize the many positives we have here in our community and also recognize those who are less fortunate or where work needs to be done.

Warmest wishes,

Alberta Health Services Kicks Off Vital Signs With A New Workplace Obesity Initiative

A new initiative in Grande Prairie addressing obesity in the workplace was announced this morning at the launch of Grande Prairie's first Vital Signs report. Alberta Health Services Board Member John Lehners was on hand at the event held at Centre 2000 to announce the program, which is still in the planning phase.

The rising rate of obesity in the region - and across the nation - was one of the key issues highlighted in Grande Prairie's Vital SignsŪ. The report combines statistics with community perceptions to provide a snapshot on the quality of life in Grande Prairie and the surrounding region.

"The impact of obesity reaches beyond our healthcare system, and impacts the community as a whole," said Tracey Vavrek, Executive Director. "This new community-based workplace program is exactly the kind of collaborative approach Vital Signs encourages to address issues impacting the well-being of our residents."
