Community Foundation of Greater Grande Prairie
Slave Lake Town Office
Greetings!

Last week we were reminded of how quickly life can change. The wildfires in and around Slave Lake, and the whole province, demonstrated their power leaving a path of destruction and heartache. Following the devastation we were reminded of how great our community is as people all over the province, and the country, stepped up; opening their homes to evacuees, gathering and collecting clothes and household items, holding fundraisers - all in support of those affected.
Here at the Foundation we are pleased to announce the new Slave Lake Rebuilding Fund.

Slave Lake Rebuilding Fund

In partnership with the Edmonton Community Foundation, we've launched the Slave Lake Rebuilding Fund. This new fund is not intended for emergency relief, as the Red Cross and Salvation Army are well experienced at handling those types of responses. The new Slave Lake Rebuilding Fund is focused more on the long-term rebuilding of the community of Slave Lake and area devastated by recent wildfires. The Slave Lake Rebuilding Fund is intended for the long-term rebuilding of social and community infrastructure, such as the library lost, playgrounds, etc.

This new fund will not be endowed like other Foundation funds. Rather all funds will be collected and held until the appropriate local charity (or charities) can be identified to best use the funds for their community. All funds dispersed back into the Slave Lake and area will go towards community rebuilding, social programs and many other community needs that region will face into the near future.

The Community Foundation of Medicine Hat and Southeastern Alberta is also collecting donations to be directed into the Slave Lake Rebuilding Fund.

Those wishing to support the Slave Lake Rebuilding Fund may contact our office at 780.538.2820, by email or visit our website to donate securely online. At this time donations of goods such as clothing, household items and such are no longer being collected.

Like other province wide and local emergency funds, the Slave Lake Rebuilding Fund is another opportunity to show people in these devastated areas how much we care.
