Greetings!

April is Community Foundation Month!

April has been officially proclaimed as Community Foundation Month by the Mayor of Grande Prairie, Bill Given; the Reeve of the County of Grande Prairie, Everett McDonald; the Mayor of Beaverlodge, Leona Hansen and the Mayor of Sexsmith, Claude Lagace.

April has always been our awareness campaign month. It's the time for us to get the word out on who we are, what we do in the community and how easy it is to partner with the Foundation for your giving goals.

We are very fortunate to have the support of the local municipalities as our work is growing in these regional areas, we work with donors and charities throughout the Peace Country region.

Also this month in celebration of our 15th anniversary we are holding a 15 Hr Giving Challenge! It's been exciting to hear the buzz around what people in the community will be doing on this day, all for community. We believe our community is worth supporting and we know you do too, so on April 15th I hope you will make a gift that will last forever, to the Community Foundation.

If you have not done so, I invite you to join us on Facebook. We will be updating our page all month long to share, and yes brag, about the work of our organization, we will highlight many great stories on how we contribute to the quality of life in the region, share stories about our friends and supporters & introduce you to the Board of Directors. We're up to 448 members!

Q99 Brian Nash Memorial Fund

We're pleased to present the new Q99 Brian Nash Memorial Fund. With this new fund the legacy of Brian's giving spirit will live on locally.

Brian Nash was born in 1947 in Fairview and passed away on July 26, 2010. Brian was a respected local Grande Prairie businessman best known for his ownership of Marlin Travel by Nash Tours. Over the years, thousands of Peace Country residents travelled on Brian's tours to many different destinations. Las Vegas was the primary focus of the majority of Brian's tours over the past 15 years. Brian was instrumental in the country music festival at Evergreen Park and took great pleasure in being able to provide country music fans with the opportunity to watch some of the greatest performers in North America which included, Keith Urban, Clay Walker, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and many others.

Brian Nash

Brian teamed up with Ken Truhn to start Grande Prairie's Q99 FM radio station. Brian was a visionary and an entrepreneur. He donated money to various causes and was a long time supporter of the Grande Prairie Storm including a couple of stints as the President of the organization. Brian was involved in our community sitting on the Crystal Centre Advisory Board and the Airport Commission. His deeds, kindness, generosity and love of life will be his legacy.

Brian's business partner and friend Ken Truhn and the team at Q99 Radio have created this Donor Advised charitable fund to memorialize and honour Brian in our community forever. Ken and the Q99 team will remain actively involved with this fund ensuring Brian's commitment to youth, sports and community will forever be felt.

"We decided that setting up this fund was an excellent tribute to our friend. His spirit of community will be remembered forever and we know it is something he would be proud of." Ken Truhn, General Manager, Q99 Radio.

"Community is built by people who work together to help a specific cause or area. Brian was a person who was quietly touching the community and always very generous in his support. It is an honour to work with Ken and his team in continuing to touch our community in Brian's name." Tracey Vavrek, Executive Director.

Anyone who wishes to make a donation to the Q99 Brian Nash Memorial Fund in memory of Brian can do so on our website at www.buildingtomorrowtoday.com or by contacting our office at 780.538.2820 or info@buildingtomorrowtoday.com.

May this fund continue to give to the community in the same way Brian did so in life.
