Greetings!

With National Philanthropy Day just around the corner, welcome to a very special edition of our e-newsletter dedicated entirely to feature the Power of Philanthropy live auction package from our recent fundraising gala.

It all started with a great idea from Dave Cook, a long time Community Foundation supporter and donor. Dave approached the Foundation with a flat of OSB wood from Ainsworth Lumber. Dave suggested someone at the gala could purchase for their own use or even better buy the lumber and donate it back to a charity that could put it too good use. Essentially doubling the impact of the gift by supporting the Foundation and making a gift in kind donation of product to a local charity.

We loved Dave's idea and built upon it to incorporate a whole live auction package for a local philanthropist to purchase with gifts of product and/or service going out to many great organizations in our community.

Here you will see how our great business community stepped up to support the package and idea, how one great community supporter purchased the package and how the local groups will benefit.

Heartfelt thanks to local philanthropist and purchaser of the Power of Philanthropy live auction package, Jim Boccioletti. Jim and the entire Grande Prairie Canadian Tire team also created the Canadian Tire Grande Prairie Community Fund in 2009. This fund is growing rapidly with the staff's fund raising efforts and will give back to the community for years to come.

Jim's support of the Community Foundation is greatly appreciated and this gift will keep giving to many deserving local groups. Thank you!

Odyssey House Receives Comforts

Odyssey House"The women at Odyssey House appreciate the kindness and well wishes from the community and the support from the Community Foundation. As a result of the recent gala night, Odyssey House was the recipient of gifts; journal books, pizza coupons and free haircuts. Rotary House Residents Provided With Weekend Snacks and Meals

Rotary House"Donations are always appreciated for Rotary House residents. This donation will be used for food supplies to provide snacks and meals for the shelter clients as there are now days on the weekend when meals are no longer being provided in the community. It came at a very important time for us. Thank you for the donation on behalf of the residents and the Wapiti Community Dorm Society Board and staff who operate Rotary House." - Jane Manning, Vice-Chair, Wapiti Community Dorm Society.

Youth Emergency Shelter Renovations Get a Boost

YESS Sunrise House"The timing of this donation was fantastic for our organization. It has allowed us to stay on budget with our renovations and ensures Sunrise House is able to reopen in November to provide a safe place for youth in need.  It is just another example of the giving nature of this community and how the Community Foundation matches those that care with those in need," Sean Doerkson, Chair.

Camp Tamarack Can Keep On BuildingCamp Tamarack

Camp Tamarack will be using this lumber to finish the interior of a 16' x 24' storage garage on site. "The donation is much appreciated. We may also finish the inside of the cookshack at the tee-pee site, and we are also planning to construct an outhouse at the tee-pee site that is wheelchair accessible - the OSB boards will also be used there," Dennis Fedeyko, Camp Tamarack.

Quality artwork on the wall is a great enhancement to any living space. We also hope to place one piece in our new Family Housing Office to be enjoyed by all the families that come into that office," Brian Hillaby, General Manager, Grande Spirit Foundation.
