A Successful 3rd Annual Burghers of Calais Community Leaders Luncheon -
Thank You

Burghers

In fourteenth-century France, the Burghers of Calais achieved timeless renown for their devotion to their city.

On May 18th fifty-five leading citizens, our local Burghers, came together at Centre 2000 to celebrate their commitment to the community of Grande Prairie and area, all in support of the Community Foundation.

Ron Regnier, Chair"We often speak about community leaders; what makes a leader? A leader is defined as a person who rules, guides or inspires others. As parents we try to inspire our children to tell the truth, respect their elders and have good manners. We inspire our teenagers to make good decisions, do well in school, be responsible and eventually be good spouses and parents. Everyone in this room has been inspired: inspired to support their community, to make the place we live work and play a better place. The work we are doing now will soon provide support for our children, our grandchildren and their grandchildren. That is the beauty of the Community Foundation, it allows anyone to do something good today that will last forever." Ron Regnier, Chair

We thank all those that attended our 3rd annual Burghers of Calais Community Leaders Luncheon for your support. Your gift will help us continue to inspire philanthropy and local giving for local needs, forever.

A special thank you to the Grande Prairie Keg Steakhouse & Bar, Jeffrey's Cafe, Marble Slab Creamery, East Side Grocery, Alsco Canada, Brio Design & Marketing, Canadian Tire, Centre 2000, Esquires Coffeehouse, Grande Spirit Foundation, Tom Pura and Andy Beal for making it all possible.

Helping Communities Coast to Coast

In the midst of last year's economic downturn, Canada's 170 community foundations contributed more than $140 million to thousands of charities.
"At a time when communities and charities across Canada were reeling from the impact of the recession, community foundations and local donors pulled out all stops to support critical needs," said Monica Patten, President and CEO of Community Foundations of Canada. "While Community Foundations of Canada wasn't immune to the impact of the downturn, it maintained granting at a significant level.
Community foundations will continue to be active, to partner with like-minded organizations, to fund programs that truly make an impact, and to strengthen the philanthropic movement in Canada," she said.

Canada's 170 community foundations are local charitable foundations that help Canadians invest in building strong and resilient places to live, work, and play. They are one of the largest supporters of Canadian charities.
