| Greetings!
The Community Foundation has an exciting month ahead.
April is a time for us to celebrate our successes over the last 14 years. It is also the time when we raise awareness of the Foundation in our region and demonstrate how anyone can make a lasting difference in the community through supporting the Community Foundation.
At the Foundation we strive to increase the Community Vitality of the Peace region. What does that mean? We believe it means our regions capacity to live, grow and develop.
In 2009, due to the generosity and philanthropic commitment of people just like you, we were able to support the region with grants totaling just over $54,000. Since our creation in 1996 our regions generous philanthropists have allowed us grant back over $3.7 Million to over 450 charitable programs and projects - touching every segment of the communities in our region - We have also increased our endowment asset base to just over $2.1 Million and growing! We owe this success to our donors. Your investments in our community provide the financial resources to make grants, the flexibility to meet new and emerging needs, and the inspiration that guides us.
We kicked off our awareness campaign yesterday with a launch event at Centre 2000. Guests heard first hand the impact the Community Foundation has had on the lives of those in our community. A special thank you to guest speakers:
- MLA Wayne Drysdale for bringing greetings on behalf of the province
- Alderman Dan Wong officially declaring April, Community Foundation Month in Grande Prairie
- Community Foundation Founder and Ambassador Lyle Carlstrom for sharing the history of the Community Foundation inception 14 years ago
- Tom Pura volunteer with the Men at Risk program for his heartfelt appreciation of the Community Foundation's support
- Local student and athlete Jamen Langlois for sharing how an athletic student award from the Come Fly With Me Foundation Fund has benefited him
- And, Helen Neufeld on why her and her husband created their own family fund to give back to their community and support two issues very dear to their hearts, education and the environment.
Watch for many more exciting events this month all in support of the Community Foundation!
Have you considered doing something good now that will last forever?
