| Greetings! |
Wow, the buzz of energy and spirit was amazing last week during the Arctic Winter Games (AWG). Our community pulled together and did an excellent job organizing and hosting this International celebration of culture and sport.
Now as our community winds down, the teams have returned to their northern homes and the thousands of volunteers take a much needed break, we can look back and reflect on the impact the AWG had on our community. Congratulations to all, you delivered a remarkable event! This is a true portrait of "Community Vitality" something the Community Foundation cares a great deal about.
April is "Community Foundation Month" - when we share the ways you can learn more on how you can impact your community through the spirit of philanthropy. Watch for many exciting events in the coming month.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!! |

| Display of Northern Spirit |
In December the Talisman Energy Fund granted $500 to the Peace Draft Horse & Pulling Club to assist with the Northern Spirit Light Show held at Evergreen Park over the Christmas holidays.
This incredible display of lights and spirit offers an affordable event for families in our community and doubled duty as a drop off for food bank donations.
Organizers supplied the local food bank with 14 loads of food and over $800 in cash donations.
Also this year the club was able to replace 1/4 of the display bulbs with new energy efficient and environmentally friendly LED bulbs.
In turn Barry Miles and Elizabeth Muddle of the Peace Draft Horse & Pulling Club donated the $4,000 in proceeds from the Northern Spirit Light Show into the northernSPIRIT Fund with the Community Foundation. The northernSPIRIT endowment fund was started by the Evergreen Park Board of Directors with earnings of the fund leaving a legacy in our community in support of local youth projects and activities. |
| Stan and Helen Neufeld Environmental Fund |
|
In 2007, Stan and Helen Neufeld, both retired educators, both passionate about their careers and their community, decided that they would like to get involved with the work of the Community Foundation of Greater Grande Prairie. Subsequently, they initiated the Stan and Helen Neufeld Environmental Fund to support voluntary groups and individuals with educational projects that will enhance, restore and protect the Peace Region's natural, and physical environment.
"We firmly believe that we are only visitors here on this earth; let us provide opportunities for future generations to enjoy its bounty as we have." ~ Helen Neufeld |
| EARTH HOUR, March 27, 2010 at 8:30 p.m. local |
|
The event that began in one city just three years ago has now grown to be the largest environmental movement in history! In 2009 hundreds of millions of people turned out their lights for one hour to show their support for climate action. Light the way again on March 27, 2010. Earth Hour is more than switching off lights for one hour, once a year. It's about giving people a voice for the future of our planet, and sending a message to our world leaders that we want action on climate change. Take a stand, join the movement.
