Watergarden and
landscaping gift to Sgt. Mickey Hutchen's family is a way of 'paying it
forward" and giving to community...
(Thomasville, NC)--- Carolina
Pondscapes,Inc. a nationally recognized, Triad-based
watergardening contractor, has partnered with Majestic Gardens of Winston-Salem,
landscape designer Tim Hanauer of Earth Graphics, Lee Bowman of Hardscape
Concepts and members of Winston-Salem's Police Department to help create a
memorial garden at the home of the late Winston-Salem police officer Sgt.
Mickey Hutchens. As a way of giving back
to the community, Carolina Pondscapes will install a waterfeature that will
serve as a peaceful and serene retreat at the family's home, in remembrance of
their fallen husband and father. All
services, materials, and supplies will be donated free of charge by Carolina
Pondscapes, as well as the other contractors and landscapers involved in the
project, and W/S Police officers will assist with labor and construction.
The project at Sgt.
Hutchen's home is scheduled to begin around April 20th. The contractors hope to
have the project completed in just a few days time for the family's enjoyment.
"As a former
police officer, we are all family," says Alan Koontz, owner of Carolina
Pondscapes and one of the lead architects on the project. "We were all horrified by the events of
that day, and I, not just as a company or former officer, but as a human being,
want to give back something that the family can enjoy each day, to put a
shining light on the memories of Sgt Hutchens and the love and kindness that he
gave to his family and everyone he touched.
We hope this memorial, a waterfeature and landscaping for the family,
will serve as a glowing and eternal reminder of his life, and his passion to
help others," says Koontz.
The project will
involve the installation of a waterfeature, plantings, paving, and landscaping
at the Hutchen's home. Doug Owen, owner
of Majestic Gardens of Winston-Salem, a reknowned and creative landscaping
company, will also help direct the renovations, and many members of the
Winston-Salem Police Department have agreed to volunteer their time and energy
to help the project come to fruition. Through their donation of labor and
supplies to the Hutchen's family, the police officers can contribute in their
own way to remember a fallen commrade.
"We look forward
to helping the Hutchen's family," says Alan Koontz. "We hope this
gift that we are contributing, along with the other contractors, gives them
peace and enjoyment, and serves as a beacon to honor Sgt. Hutchens and his
life".
