BOD Actions at the Summer Business Meeting
Jump started with a cook-out by the Pennyrile Board, the Summer Business Meeting offered attendees some of the best weather on record along with important business insights for real estate in Kentucky. Here are some of the highlights:
- Motion approved to accept the 2013-2015 KAR Strategic Plan.
- Motion approved for changes/revisions to the KAR Bylaws for the qualifications for becoming an officer as well as Code of Ethics & Professional Standards. These motions will be voted on at the membership meeting in September.
- Motion approved for changes/revisions to the KAR Policies and Procedures for the definition of common areas in regards to elections as well as the Application Fees, Dues and Assessments section. For the latest version of the Policies & Procedures, click here. - Motion approved for the 2012 Professional Standards Training to fulfill the NAR Code of Ethics training requirement. - Motion approved to provide $50,000 from the Legal Action Fund to McMahan Co. Inc., for continued defense in the case of Hyland vs. HomeServices of America, Inc. - Motion approved to rent the KAR basement to the second floor tenants. - Motion approved for additional repairs and upgrades to the KAR storage room in the basement. Additional items- KAR extended the deadline for the Disaster Relief efforts through June 30. KAR approved $10,000 as a contribution to help those affected. Applications for assistance must be submitted to KAR by that date. For more information, click here. - RPAC Trustees to fill vacancies were approved: Mike Becker for CD-04 with a term through December 2013 and Marcie Estepp for CD-05 with a term through December 2012. - Guy Montgomery was recognized as the latest KAR member to qualify for the NAR RPAC Hall of Fame (lifetime investment of $25,000 or more). - Barbara Flannery won back-to-back events bringing home first place in the talent show (with the help of Region 6 back-up dancers) and the Heads or Tails event. Louise Miller was runner-up in the talent show. - Total RPAC dollars raised during all Summer Business Meeting fundraisers was just under $4,500. - The Kentucky Real Estate Commission's next meeting will be held at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Lexington on July 19. - Thanks to Region 1 for a fantastic BBQ on Wednesday night. - Thanks to Century Mortgage for sponsoring the Friday morning coffee break. GRI: The first step in the right direction
GRI is the only designation you don't have to pay or renew to keep. Based on 2011 survey data, the median income of REALTORS without a designation was $26,900 and the median income of those with at least one designation was $49,300. A difference of $22,400. Need another reason to earn the designation - all GRI courses count towards CE. A change for this year is the GRI specific electives will not be offered, however, any NAR certification or designation course hours - online or classroom - will count as GRI elective hours, call KAR for more info 800.264.2185.

REALTORS® are required to complete ethics training for the current cycle running January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2012. Failure to complete the required ethics training will be considered a violation of a membership duty and could result in membership suspension or termination. REALTOR® members can verify ethics completion by checking with their primary local association and should notify the primary local association when their requirement is completed.
