Call for Action: NFIP/Section 502

REALTORS have been urging Congress to pass a comprehensive National Flood Insurance Program reform bill all year. We conducted a Call for Action in April, testified at Congressional hearings and urged action during our midyear hill visits. Yet once again, Congress left town before reauthorizing the NFIP and the Section 502 Rural Housing Program. As a result, thousands of transactions have come to a stop, again. Please help by responding to the most current Call for Action and let your legislator hear your voice.

5 ways to protect yourself online

You use your computer for everything real estate. Being online is a 24/7 activity. This alone makes you vulnerable for online attacks and ID theft. In today's world, criminals have found abundant opportunities to attack ordinary Web users. Hackers are lacing Web sites - often legitimate ones - with so-called malware, which can infiltrate PCs to steal sensitive personal information and then turn the computers into "zombies" that can be used to spew spam and more malware onto the Internet.

Social media changing real estate

Texting, agent websites and social media are some of the new tools Realtors use today, said Brian Carroll, technology coordinator with the Peoria Area Association of Realtors who conducts computer classes for agents at PAAR offices.

Nine out of 10 home buyers went to the internet last year in search of a house, said National Association of Realtors' spokeswoman Michelle Wardlaw. "That's a dramatic increase from only 2 percent in 1995," she said.

5 reasons REALTORS fail at social media

As a REALTOR or broker, you know the value is there in social media, but despite your best efforts you're still struggling. How can you change your social media luck?

Below are five reasons many REALTORS and brokers fail in social media and how you can turn it around:

1. You have no plan. Social media is one tool in your marketing toolbox.   Make sure you create your strategy BEFORE you try to implement one. Schedule time every morning and evening to devote to social media. 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon/evening. If you don't have a plan - it will take you twice as long!

Keep your agents "in the know"

NAR discovered that when Broker Owners alert their agents to key legislative issues, agents listen, respond, and take action. And, from Brokers already in the Broker Involvement Program, we know that Calls-to-Action response rates are significantly higher when agents receive a message from their Broker asking them to participate.

If you are a real estate broker in Kentucky, please enroll (it's free and easy), and if you are an agent, please encourage your broker to join this effective network of broker leadership in public advocacy for REALTORSŪ across the United States.

Despite your qualifications, do some sellers list with an amateur?

It might be time to update your listing presentation!
AnnMcDonald
Free listing presentation from REALTOR.comŪ shows how the Internet is more effective than costly ads - including your free or enhanced listings already on REALTOR.comŪ. Revised for 2010 - many pages make a good point about the internet in general and importance of proper pricing. You'll be able to leverage:

- NAR statistics showing why online marketing is most effective
- Why the online marketing you do gives the homes you sell an advantage over your competitors
- Methods you can use to increase buyer inquiries on your listing inventory
- Traffic reports showing sellers how you effectively reach buyers for their home on the #1 real estate site (many REALTORSŪ are now successfully using these reports during price discussions for properties that aren't selling right away - Ask how to use these when you call)
