Broker Involvement Program
NAR discovered that when Broker Owners alert their agents to key legislative issues, agents listen, respond, and take action. And, from Brokers already in the program, we know that Calls-to-Action response rates are significantly higher when agents receive a message from their Broker asking them to participate. If you are a real estate broker in Kentucky, please enroll (it's free and easy), and if you are an agent, please encourage your broker to join this effective network of broker leadership in public advocacy for REALTORSŪ across the United States. Learn more and enroll here (to enroll, click the "Join the Program" button on the left side) |
Important notice from KREEF
Over the past 15 years, the Kentucky Real Estate Education Foundation (KREEF) has provided continuing education across the state as part of a contract between KREEF and the Kentucky Real Estate Commission (KREC). KREEF's current contract, which runs through June 30, 2010, was not extended by KREC Commissioners due to financing concerns and projected spending issues at KREC. Since KREEF just recently received notification, we are still in the planning stages and we will keep you informed as we move forward. Please note this will not affect CORE and GRI offerings held by KREEF as both count for CE credit. This change will also not affect KREEF's online courses. There are also several classroom courses scheduled across the state through the end of June and other courses may be added in June in certain areas. You can visit the website to view a complete course schedule. KREEF Course Schedule |
FHA to allow e-signatures on RE contracts
FHA took an NAR-backed step toward greater use of electronic signatures in its announcement last week that it now permits real estate contracts and other third-party documents in FHA deals to use e-signatures. NAR President Vicki Cox Golder praised the move and commended FHA's "refreshing attitude towards modernization." Read More |
No home "sales tax" in health reform bill
Contrary to reports and newspaper articles circulating widely on the Internet, there is not a 4.0% "sales tax" or "transfer tax" on the sale of a home included in the recently signed health care reform bill. The analysis underlying these reports is incorrect and fails to take into account the interplay of the bill's provisions with already existing real estate tax laws that remain unchanged. Read More |
Lead paint changes from the EPA
New lead-based paint safety practices have been established by the EPA that could affect your buyers and sellers that buy or sell homes built before 1978. Certified contractors must now be used to do renovations or repairs on homes where lead based paint is present. These new rules went into effect April 22, 2010. NAR has developed a compliance guide to help you understand these new procedures. Read More |
Rental scams on the rise
Troubles in the real estate market are being blamed for helping to fuel what was once a rare type of scam - swindling hopeful tenants out of money by pretending to be a landlord, according to officials. With a dramatic increase in the number of vacant and foreclosed homes, the number of prospective tenants swindled by scammers posing as landlords has been rising in the past few years, officials said. Pricing strategies for your listings
I can't even count how many times I've heard Sellers start pricing discussions with the statement, "We really need to net this amount of money." The declaration usually goes hand-in-hand with the Seller's instruction to: "Try this price, I don't want to give it away," which is usually followed by the caveat, "We can always come down later, but we can never go up."
